Five years ago, we never imagined Junk in the Trunk would become such a special part of Westford. Today we celebrated our 5th anniversary with at least 123 carfuls of folks giving items freely to their neighbors, over 150 more people coming to shop and keep things out of the landfill, and 16 amazing volunteers making it all happen. A huge shout out to New England Clothes Recycling for the commemorative anniversary shirts, to Holly and Tom for our reusable shopping bag giveaway, and to everyone who has donated, volunteered, shopped, and supported us over the years. We’re so grateful that this little idea has grown into something that brings our community together with SO many different benefits.

We’ve had a busy month since our spring Junk in the Trunk:

• Participated in the panel at the League of Women Voters Civic Social Recycling Workshop
• Wrapped up a year of consultation with the town of Chelmsford by joining them for their first-ever Junk in the Trunk event
• Held an initial meeting with Lexington as they begin exploring a first Junk in the Trunk event of their own

It’s been rewarding to see interest in reuse, equity, and community sharing continue to grow across the region! I hope to see you for our August 1 summer event.

14 dedicated volunteers.

117 cars filled with people donating goods freely to the community.

188 additional shoppers ready to give useful items a second life instead of sending them to the waste stream.

1 truck filled to the brim with 2,800 pounds of ungifted goods to continue the diversion effort. This was our heaviest weight to date!

Spring Junk in the Trunk was free, fun, and a success by any measure thanks to all of you.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shopped, volunteered, spread the word, and helped make our first event at Stony Brook so fantastic. We are so grateful for this community and all that we can accomplish together.

See you this summer on August 1 when we will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of Junk in the Trunk!

Greetings Junk in the Trunk fans!

We are gearing up for our spring event (date to be posted soon)!

In the meantime we are looking for people who would be willing to join a “potential volunteer list”. If you love JITT and are willing to help with ex*****on of the event, please PM/DM us so we can add your name and contact information to the list.
