Power outages can happen at any time. If you're using a generator, always operate it outdoors and at least 20 feet away from your home, doors, windows, and vents to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Never run a generator inside a garage, shed, or enclosed space.

Keep generators dry
Allow the engine to cool before refueling
Use heavy-duty extension cords rated for outdoor use
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly

Stay safe and protect your family during power outages!

WEATHER UPDATE FOR SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA
Residents should remain weather aware over the next several days as a tropical disturbance moves across the region, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, localized flooding, coastal flooding, gusty winds, and a few severe thunderstorms.

Widespread rainfall totals of 3–6 inches are expected across much of Southwest Louisiana. Isolated areas could receive 10 inches or more. The greatest flood threat is expected Wednesday through Friday. Flooding of low-lying roads, poor drainage areas, and locations near bayous and streams will be possible. Coastal flooding is expected along portions of the Louisiana and Texas coastline, especially during periods of high tide. Some roads and low-lying coastal areas may become inundated.

Gusty winds are expected across the region, particularly along and south of the I-10 corridor. Stronger wind gusts will be possible near heavier rain bands and thunderstorms. A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through Thursday. Primary threats include damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and isolated tornadoes.

Remember to never drive through flooded roadways. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle away. The Westlake Fire Department will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as new information becomes available. Stay informed by following trusted weather sources and having multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
