The Westview Hills Girls Cross Country Team competed in their first home meet earlier this week against Old Quarry and Cass. The temperatures may have made racing more challenging, but the girls still raced hard. Maddie may have finished in second but set a new personal record of 12 minutes and 13 seconds earning her spot on the Westview Hall of fame as the 3rd best time for an 8th grader.

Karolina persevered to earn herself a medal for finishing in 7th place. After Karolina, Laurah finished in 11th, Sofia in 13th, Mila in 15th, Elise in 16th, and Zamara in 17th place. Many girls beat their time from racing this course over a week ago including Maddie, Laurah, Sofia, Mila, Zamara, Arina, Bella, Hope, Kaitlyn, Rohasri, and Leah. Great job girls!

Every autumn, Maercker PTA participates in the Reflections arts competition. This program offered by National PTA encourages our students to explore and express themselves through the arts. Emma Panico, welcome to District 60! We are proud to have her as a new Special Education teacher at Maercker Intermediate.

She chose to work at Maercker D60 not only because she loves our mission of promoting collaboration and a supportive learning environment for all students but also that this job brings her back close to her hometown of Downers Grove.

She loves being a teacher because she enjoys watching students use the skills you've taught in the classroom, in real life. Emma shares it is such an honor to be a small part of shaping students' lives.

Her hope for the school year is that her students leave the classroom feeling like they can do hard things and be encouraged to get out of their comfort zones.

Congrats to the Westview Hills Boys Cross Country team for defeating both Cass and Old Quarry yesterday. Although it was hot and rained during the boys race, many of our wildcats had excellent performances.

Leading the way for Westview was Liam winning his second race of the season in 11 minutes and 35 seconds.

Sam finished in 2nd place while running his best time ever.

Suvan finished in 3rd and dropped an incredible 46 seconds off his personal best time.

Adam A. finished in 6th and also lowered his best time.

For Alex P., 10 was the lucky number. He finished in 10th in the race, earned a medal for being in the top 10, and moved into 10th place on the 6th grade hall of fame with his time of 12 minutes and 55 seconds.

A special shoutout to Lyla, Emma, Arlette, Sabina, Victoria, Dunja, Mrs. Moffett, Mr. Engberg, and Mr. Juarez for helping with the meet. Our boys race again Thursday at Westmont!
