On September 19th, our department was able to conduct training involving a controlled structure burn in Weston. Also in attendance were members of Wahoo Fire and Rescue, Prague Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Malmo Volunteer Fire Department. Being able to train in these situations alongside other departments that we would be fighting the fire with in a real setting allows us a chance to build and strengthen these relationships and learn how to work together in the most efficient way.

These training opportunities also allow us to work with live fire in a controlled environment, which we can use to see how fire builds, witness patterns and behaviors of fire, and study how various external factors can influence a fire. Additionally, it gives newer members a chance to get in full gear and close to a fire without it being an actual emergency.

Thank you to all of the department members who attended Saturday. It was a fantastic event and it was great to see everyone working together and sharpening their skills.

And shoutout to Edward King for some great spectator photos! Thank you!

🔥 A Big Shout Out to Kelsey! 🔥

Congratulations Kelsey on 4 years with Weston Volunteer Fire & Rescue!

As our Fire Prevention Officer, Kelsey does a lot behind the scenes to help us promote fire safety in our community. When it comes to our day with the St. John’s kids, she’s the one behind it all, coordinating the details and making sure everything comes together!

Thank you Kelsey for 4 years of hard work and dedication. We appreciate all you do for our department and our community!

25 years. Two generations have been born since these attacks that forever changed our nation. May we never forget these events, the lives that were lost, or what it truly means to be a patriot.

Another stretch of 🔥hot🔥 weather is upon us which will inevitably dry everything out and make fire conditions increasingly favorable. Here are some quick things you can do (that you may not always think about) that can help prevent fires:

⭐️Do not park a hot vehicle on dry grass. Heat from exhaust pipes, catalytic converters, and other parts can easily ignite dry grass and weeds.

⭐️Check tow chains. Chains can often drag on the ground while a vehicle is in motion, creating sparks. Ensure chains are secured.

⭐️Keep grills away from grass or flammable debris, and check the grease traps. Heat or falling extremely hot debris from a grill can spark a flame in grass or other materials very quickly, and avoid potential grease fires by cleaning the grease trap.

Stay aware of your surroundings and stay diligent. 🚒
