Hello everyone, this year we are doing something different for our Weston Firefighters Association Fundraiser. The money we have raised in the past goes back to the community in and around Weston. We put on the Easter Egg hunt in the spring, Sponsor kids sports in town or in the Otsego community throughout the year, School scholarships and more.

If you’re interested, let us know! We unfortunately will not accept PayPal, Venmo, Cash App or any other form of electronic payment platforms . So it will be cash only. The Tickets are $20 dollars a piece. There are only 350 tickets, so get them while they are available. We will reveal the winners at our Chicken BBQ in the fall and of course you do not need to be present to win.

As many of you know, the County’s CodeRED emergency notification platform was discontinued following a system-wide hacking. The new emergency notification platform, Everbridge, is now live and able to be subscribed to. Follow the link attached to the Wood County EMA’s post to sign up for this new system to be able to be alerted of severe weather, emergencies, road closures, public safety alerts, and other important updates.

📢 Wood County residents can sign up now for a new emergency notification system to stay alert during severe weather and other potential emergencies.

Wood County Alert (powered by Everbridge) will be used to send local notifications about severe weather, emergencies, road closures, public safety alerts, and other important updates. Users can choose how they prefer to be contacted, including by text message, phone call, email, or a mobile app.

The new system replaces Wood County’s previous emergency notification platform, CodeRED. It is important to note that prior registrations for CodeRed will not transfer, and all users will need to create a new account to receive alerts.

Today there is an increasing risk for strong storms to impact our area. This is an overnight event. The Wood County EMA reported that “The majority of Wood County is now under a greater threat for an isolated tornado. Up to 2" hail will be possible.” Always remain weather aware and be prepared for the worst. Power outages can happen, so make sure your phones are charged early to still be able to obtain weather alerts.

Have a plan. As far as we are aware, there are not any local churches opening as storm shelters. This could change as the weather progresses. If we are notified of a change to this, we will post it.

🚨🚨 CodeRED is offline. Do not expect any weather alerts from this platform during today’s weather event. 🚨🚨

The activation of the outdoor warning sirens will still occur, however sometimes they cannot be heard indoors. Rarely, but it’s still possible, they will activate with very little time to react. Again, remain weather aware. It is our recommendation to download local weather apps, such as WTOL’s and 13ABC’s, to be able to still monitor the weather in the event that a power outage occurs.

We may not be able to monitor our page once the weather turns as we will be out keeping a watchful eye on the sky.

Be prepared. Be aware. Be safe.

Every year we hold two events that are very special to us.

In late November, we hold our annual banquet. This is a time for all of us to sit down and enjoy a meal together and look back on all that we have gone through together within the year. This is also a time to thank our spouses/significant others for their love and understanding of us living the volunteer firefighter life.

In mid-December, we hold our Breakfast with Santa event for the kids and grandkids of the department. This is our thank you to our children and grandchildren for their love and understanding throughout the year when mom or dad or grandpa have to leave on moments notice to go help others.

It’s not always easy to be the spouse/significant other or child/grandchild of a firefighter, but we have all been blessed with loving and caring families who support us through it all!

From the Weston Township Fire Department, Merry Christmas to all!

Today we trained on vehicle extrication. Thank you to Howard’s Junkyard in Grand Rapids for the use of three cars and their property to be able to do this training. Firefighters got to familiarize themselves with our cutters, spreaders, and ram tearing these cars apart. This is a skill that we use way more than we’d like to, however, it’s a skill that we take very seriously. Please drive safely so we don’t have to use these tools on you!
