This week, Weston EMS stood by at Weston Fire Department’s water rescue training at the Saugatuck Reservoir, operating from Anglers Dock. This training gave our EMS members the opportunity to practice our role in supporting the Fire Department during water rescue operations and ensure we’re prepared to work together during a joint response.

Thankfully, everyone was safe and EMS was not needed for an actual rescue. We’re incredibly grateful for our strong relationship with the Weston Volunteer Fire Department and for opportunities like this that allow us to train together, strengthen our teamwork, and stay prepared for emergencies in our community.

Today Weston Fire and Weston EMS hosted the annual Senior Lunch at the Weston Fire Department with our friends from the Weston Senior Center.

It was an afternoon filled with many smiles and delicious food barbecued by the expert cooks from the WVFD and served by members of WVEMS.

A special shoutout to Viv’s Veggies at Chestnut Farm at The Farmstand by Dairy Boy here in Weston for donating lots of beautiful fresh veggies for the seniors to take home.

🌟 Member Spotlight: Maria Dempsey 🌟

This month we are proud to highlight our member spotlight, Maria Dempsey. Maria joined Weston EMS in 2017 and is an invaluable member of our department, volunteering more than 2,500 hours in service to our community. She currently serves as our Vice President, where she is a hands-on CPR instructor and supports the organization through marketing, fundraising, and financial planning initiatives.

Outside of EMS, Maria is an avid gardener, tennis player, and enjoys cooking and entertaining. She is also a devoted mom to two boys, and we’re fortunate to have her husband, Lou, volunteering alongside in the department.

Maria says she became an EMT because she has always been interested in the medical field and wanted to become involved in a hands-on way. Looking back on her experience, she says it has given her countless opportunities to learn, grow, and challenge herself in real-world situations.

“One of the things I value most is being able to help my neighbors and better understand the needs of my community. I also really appreciate that volunteering as an EMT has introduced me to a group of great people who have become close friends.”

Maria’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving others have made a lasting impact on Weston EMS and the community we serve. We are incredibly grateful for everything she does. Thank you, Maria, for your continued service and for being such an important part of our team!
