This past Wednesday (4/22) members of the plan met at New Canaan Fire Department for the April meeting. The speaker for the evening was Assistant Chief Plofkin of the Wilton Fire department, his topic of discussion for the evening was how to properly inspect structural firefighting PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with NFPA standard 1851.

Chief Plofkin went in full detail on how to remove your gear and check key areas of use for turnout gear (shoulders, knees and back) for any damage or Significant wear

May’s meeting will be at the Danbury fire school on 5/27 starting at 6PM and the itinerary for the evening will be elections and the plans first ever trade show

Great lecture last night by CSFA County Vice President John Plofkin on firefighters and the cancer bill. He offered the members a lot of knowledge on on the bill works and things to protect ourselves. Thank you to Monroe Fire for hosting and to their Ladies Auxiliary for a nice dinner.

Last Wednesday (11/19) members meet at Redding Fire & EMS Company #1 for our monthly meeting. 39 members were in attendance. Our presenter for the evening was Kelly Scott from Lucid diagnostics. Kelly had an outstanding presentation talking about the ESO Guard test and how its another method of preventative screening for cancer.

Just a reminder to all members that out next meeting will be on January 28th at Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 in Shelton. The presenter for that night will be Ashley McLain from Linked Autism Safety Project.

At the County’s annual meeting last evening, the Firefighter of the Year award was given to Karin Halstead of Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Co. committee members Doug Bogen of Long Hill Fire in Trumbull and Bill Davin from Monroe Fire presented the award.

Mark your calendars! Meetings will resume on September 24th at the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company. Meeting begins at 7pm and dinner will be served. Topic for the evening is firefighter cancer presented by The Connecticut State Firefighters Association (CSFA) Fairfield County VP John Plofkin.

New Members are welcome.
