And that's a wrap... our 2026 SCSO week camp is in the books... we cannot thank our sponsors enough for all they did for us this week. We forgot yesterday to thank Somerset Pizza for the great lunch for our students. The pizza was amazing as usual. Today our students were dropped off at Somerset County Recreation & Parks fields for the best day of their lives, as one of the students called it. Today was LAW Enforcement Day, and to start it off with a visit from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Motor Unit, who stopped by and showed off their bad-to-the-bone police motorcycle. Students got to mount it and turn the sirens on. Next up, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office STAR Team brought their tactical SWAT truck for the kids to climb in and learn about the purpose of the vehicle. Maryland State Police brought Truck 2, their Mobile Command Center, for the kids. They got to climb aboard and see all the high-tech tools inside. And for the grand finale, Maryland State Police - Aviation Command Trooper 4 landed, and the kids were star-struck. Today, staff from our office grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for the students to show our appreciation back to them. We would like to thank our helpers today from the Princess Anne Vol. Fire Company and Somerset County Dog Control for sticking around and helping us contain all the fun and keeping it safe for the students. A camp video will be made soon and posted to our Instagram page, as Facebook won't allow pictures and videos tagged in the post together. Again, Thank You to all the agencies that came by on such short notice. It's Partnerships like this that enhance community relations.

Day 3 of our SCSO camp is in the books. Today our students were greeted by Mayor Taylor from the City of Crisfield, who talked to students about what it takes to be a Mayor and other jobs and duties to make a city run. After that, the Somerset County Library brought an awesome set of blocks, and students were challenged to build a skyscraper. Ending our day was the Somerset County Health Department giving our students a stern talking-to about opioids and other risks and dangers to the human body. Our students are having fun. Tomorrow is the final day of our camp. They will be in for a treat with what we have coming for the grand finale.

Today was Day 2 of our SCSO camp! Today, students were greeted by our very own Somerset County Emergency Services, where students got to practice dialing 911 and listening to a 911 dispatcher, and also play the Emergency guessing game. Somerset County Dog Control brought a puppy that was available for adoption, U.S. Coast Guard Station Crisfield brought their boat, and the kids got to come on board, and University of Maryland Extension-Somerset County 4-H brought a bunch of toys and race cars for the kids to build and play with. We would like to thank today's sponsors, Goose Creek-Westover and Subway, for the lunch provided to the kids.

Late post: August 10 was Day 1 of our SCSO summer camp. Our camp is for students in Somerset County Public Schools in 4th-6th grades. Each day is dedicated to a different public agency to demonstrate to the students. Monday was dedicated to Fire and EMS. We want to thank the Princess Anne Vol. Fire Company and the Allen Volunteer Fire Company for stopping by to show the kids their equipment. The kids got to tour Princess Anne's 100-foot tower truck and Allen's EMS Unit. Each day, we will post pictures of the different agencies. We would also like to thank Chick-fil-A and Pepsi for their donations of food and drinks for the day.
