CAN THE FIRE DEPT ACCESS YOUR HOME
Many of us take for granted that when we have a fire, we call 911 and the fire department comes running. Take a moment to think about if the fire trucks can access your home through your driveway.

Fire trucks carry so much equipment that most apparatus can be 10’ to 13’-6” feet tall. Engines, tankers truck, even a ladder truck if needed are very large. The dilemma is not the paint job, but mirrors, windshield, deck guns or water cannons and antennas that is used for communication back to dispatch. These are all equipment damage concerns and life safety communication concerns. Ambulances have the same issue.

Please check your drive way for good access, wide driveway entrances, no low hanging tree limbs, cattle guards that will support a 48,000 lbs. tanker truck. If you are not sure, contact your local fire department or one of your local firefighters to come take a look.

The fire department must have access without destroying equipment.
