This past week we had the opportunity to host a group training for area fire departments. Local volunteer and career firefighter Joe Heater performed classroom lecture as well as a hands on demonstration to teach us about fire behavior and how a fire travels through a structure. Air flow plays a huge role in a fires growth and movement within a structure. Something as simple as a closed door can change the fire scene. We would like to thank Captain Joe Heater for his presentation.

A huge thank you to Shadeland Volunteer Fire Department, Randolph Township Fire Department and Attica Fire Department for attending this training and helping to improve the fire service in Southwest Tippecanoe County.

On Monday evening, we were dispatched to a barn fire just outside of West Point. Our first due trucks arrived on scene within 6 minutes to find a full engulfed structure. Mutual aid for tankers and manpower was requested immediately and our neighboring departments stepped up to assist. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

We would like to say Thank you to the departments that came to help get this blaze extinguished. Shadeland Fire Department, Wea Fire Department, Randolph Fire Department, Otterbein Fire Department, Evonic Fire Service, Wabash Fire, and Tippecanoe Emergency Management.

Great opportunity for teenagers interested in emergency services.

Meet one of the newest members of the Shadeland Fire Department Cadet Program! Our cadets don't just observe—they learn valuable skills, build confidence, and become part of our fire service family.

If you're between the ages of 14 and 17, have an interest in serving your community, and live within a reasonable distance of Shadeland, the Cadet Program is a great opportunity to:

• Learn about the fire service
• Gain hands-on experience alongside firefighters
• Build leadership and teamwork skills
• Make lifelong friendships
• Give back to your community

Whether you're considering a future career in emergency services or simply want to challenge yourself while making a difference, we'd love to have you join our team.

If you're ready to take the first step toward becoming part of the fire service, send us a message or stop by the station to learn more.

We would like to say Thank You to Benton County Emergency Medical Service for recently inviting us to take part in a cadaver lab with their team. We had the opportunity to practice airway management skills and learn about the internal anatomy of the human body. This was a very educational experience and we can’t thank Jason Fisher and his team enough for giving us this opportunity.

Our page has been quiet lately, but our station has been busy as ever. We have responded to multiple medical calls, a grass fire, motor vehicle accidents and mutual aid calls in the recent weeks.

It’s hot outside which means one thing… It’s Fair week! West Point Volunteer Fire will join other Tippecanoe County fire departments in providing medical coverage at the Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair. You can find us teamed up with Wea Township fire Saturday evening, and Sheffield Township fire on Sunday night. On Tuesday, West Point will also be on the grounds providing first aid. Our in house ambulance unit 507 will provide medical transport services all three nights. Be sure to stop by the medical pavilion near the midway to say hello.

Be safe and stay hydrated during this heat wave. If you start to get overheated, find a cool place to get inside and relax.

We hope to see you at the 2026 Tippecanoe County Fair.

On Tuesday evening our dedicated volunteers responded to a fully engulfed vehicle fire. Luckily no injuries were reported and no other structures were affected.

We need to give a shout out to our team members as their response time was top notch. From the initial dispatch to being on scene with water flowing was less than seven minutes. We consider that remarkable timing for a group of volunteers that were relaxing with their families or mowing their yard when the tones dropped. Thank you to the men and women of West Point Volunteer Fire Department

🚨🚨 Wednesday June 17th looks to be an active day in the weather world. Severe storms are forecasted to move into the area in the afternoon and evening hours bringing potential for high winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes. With those dangers come downed trees, power outages, flash flooding and closed roads.

Be sure to have an emergency plan in place, keep an eye on the sky and stay tuned in to your favorite local forecaster for the most up to date weather forecast. If you need us, don’t hesitate to call. You know the number.

We hope everyone made it through yesterday’s weather events without damage. After the storms rolled through the area our evening got busy. We responded to a report of a tree on fire and multiple calls for down power lines. Our crew on the tree fire was able to quickly extinguish the flames while other responding crews secured the roadways affected by the downed power lines until power companies could make the area safe. Thank you to our volunteers and to the power company workers who are still restoring power to homes across Tippecanoe County.
