🚨 Wildlife Safety Notice 🚨

Today, Animal Control received a report of a sick raccoon on Tickle Road. Upon arrival, the Animal Control Officer observed a young raccoon that was extremely thin and displaying neurological symptoms consistent with possible illness.

For public safety, the raccoon was humanely euthanized by the Westport Police Department and will be submitted for rabies testing.

Animal Control urges all residents: if you observe sick, injured, or unusually acting wildlife, please do not approach the animal. Keep a safe distance and contact your local Animal Control Officer immediately, just as the reporting resident did today.

⚠️ Signs of potentially sick wildlife may include:
• Difficulty walking or standing
• Aggressive or unusually tame behavior
• Disorientation or circling
• Excessive drooling
• Extreme lethargy or weakness

Thank you for helping keep our community and pets safe.

⚠️ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️

The Animal Control Department is receiving several calls regarding a possible deceased dog near Allen Pond on East Beach Road.

At this time, the animal in question has been identified as a coyote — not a dog. Please also note that the animal is located in Dartmouth, not Westport.

For removal concerns, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) should be contacted directly. It is also state property as well.

Thank you to everyone who reported the situation and helped provide accurate information to the proper agencies
