THIS FRIDAY EVENING before you head out to dinner or home. Please join the Commission on People with Disabilities and the Special Father’s Network at the Westport Center for Senior Activities this coming Friday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

We hope you'll join us for what promises to be an engaging and meaningful evening, bringing people together, strengthening community networks, and ensuring that families know they are not navigating their journeys alone.

Whether you are the parent of a newly diagnosed child, a seasoned advocate, or simply someone who cares about creating a more inclusive Westport, this conversation is for you. Special Fathers Network founder and author David Hirsch will lead an interactive discussion focused on building stronger connections, sharing resources, and creating opportunities for families to support one another.

Yesterday, the Teen Awareness Group (TAG) hosted its 20th annual Get Real Day at Staples High School. This full-day program encourages students to “get real” about mental health and substance misuse by promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and fostering open, honest conversations.

In preparation for the event, TAG students researched current issues, invited speakers with lived experience, and transformed the school with impactful displays. These exhibits highlighted the risks of impaired driving, identified warning signs of mental health and substance use challenges, and shared information about available resources and support systems.

The day included an all-school assembly featuring a speaker from Generation S.O.S., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing peer-to-peer mental health support for teens and young adults. Our guest speaker, Jack Buckley, shared his powerful story of resilience and recovery. Jack flew all the way from California to share his story. He’s a Villanova grad who went through his own struggles with mental health and addiction and is now 8 years sober. Today, he works with teens across the country to help others get support. He reminds parents and kids that help is available, and no one has to face challenges alone.

During lunch, students had the opportunity to attend a Wellness Fair featuring more than 15 local behavioral health organizations, as well as Westport Human & Youth Services, Westport Together, the Westport Police Department, the Health District, Fire, and EMS. The fair featured interactive exhibits and encouraged students to explore healthy coping strategies and community resources.
We encourage you to speak with your child about their experience and key takeaways from the day. These conversations can help reinforce the importance of mental health awareness and seeking support when needed.

TAG extends its gratitude to the school administration, participating organizations, and students for helping create a meaningful and respectful event centered on student well-being.

Heart. Expertise. Hope. 🧡

As National Social Work Month comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible individuals who keep our communities whole.

From our schools and state agencies to our municipal social workers they are the quiet heroes standing on the front lines of care. Whether they are:

🏠 Navigating a family through a housing crisis

🎓 Supporting a student’s mental well-being

👵 Connecting seniors to vital resources

🌟 Guiding our youth toward a brighter tomorrow

They ensure that no one—at any stage of life—ever feels unseen.

It takes a rare blend of empathy and innovation to turn a moment of crisis into a path toward stability. Social workers don’t just offer a helping hand; they build the long-term solutions that make our towns stronger, healthier, and more connected.

To the social workers who bring heart and professionalism to every challenge: Thank you for your steadfast commitment. Our community is better because of you.

Join us in saying THANK YOU in the comments! 👇

Peace, joy, and hope this season ❄️

As the year comes to a close, our team pauses to reflect with gratitude
and extend our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for a healthy and peaceful holiday season.

We are deeply honored by the resilience, trust, and openness of the individuals and families we have the privilege to serve each day.

To our generous donors, thank you for believing in this work and helping make it possible.

To our community partners and collaborators, we are sincerely grateful for your steady commitment and the many ways you show up for our neighbors throughout the year.

Your impact is felt in lasting and meaningful ways. In the young people encouraged to grow and thrive, the families supported through challenging moments, and our seniors whose wisdom, curiosity, and lived experience help shape the fabric of our community.

Together, these contributions create a sense of connection and care that strengthens us all.

With sincere appreciation and warm holiday wishes,

Westport Human Services

🎉 Thank You, Westport! 🧡🦃

This Thanksgiving, our community came together in the most extraordinary ways to support neighbors who might otherwise go without. From grocery gift cards and pies, to handwritten cards and festive meals, your generosity ensured that Westport families and older adults could celebrate with dignity, joy, and comfort.

Thanks to:
✨ Westport Women’s Club – $11,000 in grocery gift cards + Food Closet support + Catered meals for homebound residents
✨ WCSA, Friends of the Senior Center & Calise's – Beautiful catered meals for homebound seniors
✨ Coleytown Middle School – $1,695 in gift cards + 55 bags of Thanksgiving staples
✨ Coleytown Elementary & Stepping Stones Preschool – Handcrafted cards spreading cheer
✨ Temple Israel of Westport Israel Early Childhood Center – 70 delicious pies
✨ Gault employees – 10 fresh turkeys
✨ Westport Food Fund Donors – Year-round support for food-insecure households

And to the many residents who give quietly, respectfully, and with open hearts—thank you. Your kindness reminds our neighbors that they are seen, supported, and never alone.

💬 As one parent shared: “The fact that everything is handled privately made it possible for me to ask for help. My kids will have a real Thanksgiving because of this community.”

If you’d like to help support Westport families this holiday season, donations to our Holiday Giving Program, Westport Warm Up, and Food Fund are now open at www.westportct.gov/donate
100% of contributions go directly to local households in need.

🧡 We are grateful for every one of you.
