We wanted to share the beautiful flowers from our WCSA garden today! 🌸

Our Garden Club has been hard at work keeping our gardens looking beautiful, and they are always happy to welcome new members. If you’re interested in joining, please let Wendy know. It’s a wonderful way to learn more about gardening while enjoying time outdoors with a friendly group. The Garden Club meets Friday mornings at 10:00 AM and is led by Master Gardener Paul Rossi, who generously volunteers his time. Paul typically begins with an informative demonstration, followed by time in the garden working on the vegetable and flower beds. It’s a fun and welcoming group, and we are so fortunate to have Paul and our wonderful Garden Club volunteers helping our gardens thrive.

The annual WCSA lobster and clambake was held Wednesday night and included an entrée choice of steamed lobster, steak or chicken, with mussels, steamers, garden salad, corn on the cob, baked potato, a dinner roll and watermelon for dessert.

A special thank you to the Friends of the WCSA for co-sponsoring our event, Creative Culinary for catering this delicious meal and to NCL for volunteering.

Today, we continued our lecture series and were honored to welcome Dr. David Sachs, who presented "The Engineered Human Heart, Liver, and Blood Platform for Drug Development." Thank you, Dr. Sachs, for sharing your expertise and providing such an engaging and informative presentation.

Next week, on Tuesday, August 4, we continue our AI lecture series with Adam Konowitz. In this informative session, Adam will explore how artificial intelligence can enhance your hobbies—or even inspire you to try something new. Whether you've considered learning a new language, researching your family history through genealogy, or learning how to play games, you'll discover practical ways AI can support your interests and lifelong learning. Thank you Adam!

For additional information on our lecture series', please contact the WCSA at (203) 341-5099.

Here is a recap of a few of our summer events...

First, Holly did a food demonstration called "The History of Food in Recipes: Thomas Jefferson’s Recipe for Ice Cream," in which everyone enjoyed learning (and sampling) how to make Thomas Jefferson's homemade ice cream.

We recently celebrated National Ice Cream Day and enjoyed a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings with the Emergency Ice Cream Truck. Many thanks to the Friends of the WCSA for sponsoring this event.

Volunteers from the National Charity League had a lemonade stand at the WCSA. Everyone enjoyed nice cold lemonade on a hot day!

Rozanne Gates from The Legacy Project interviewed Ceci Maher, former CT state senator. Thanks to all who came to listen to this interesting and informative discussion.

This past Tuesday, we had our iced tea social. Everyone enjoyed a refreshing glass of freshly made iced tea or flavored water and a light summer snack. Special thanks to the volunteers of the National Charity League for their assistance!

⚠️ Flood Watch in Effect for Westport

Heavy rain is expected to develop this afternoon, with the greatest potential for flash flooding tonight through Wednesday. A Flood Watch is in effect for Westport from 2:00 PM today through 8:00 PM Wednesday.

This photo is from last week’s flooding and serves as an important reminder of how quickly roadways can become dangerous.

If you encounter a flooded roadway:
🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
Never drive through floodwaters. Just a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road.

Please use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor conditions throughout the day. The Westport Fire Department will continue to monitor the forecast and provide updates as needed.
