FIRST SELECTWOMAN’S OPENING NOTE
As we approach Labor Day weekend, my thoughts are with the dedicated neighbors and local workers who keep Weston running smoothly every day. From the Town Hall staff, public safety officials, and DPW crews maintaining our roads to the educators, business owners, and volunteers who enrich our daily lives, our community thrives because of their hard work and resilience.
This weekend is an opportunity to celebrate their dedication, honor the pride they bring to their work, and recognize the quiet sacrifices made to keep our town safe, strong, and welcoming. Let us take this time to express our gratitude to everyone serving Weston and commit to supporting one another as we build a bright, connected future together. Happy Labor Day to you all!
MUNICIPAL CLOSURES
Municipal Buildings will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. The Transfer Station will be closed Saturday, September 5th through Tuesday, September 8th, reopening on Wednesday, September 9th.

Alexei Vorobyov, leader of Siversk, Ukraine, will visit Weston alongside a delegation of municipal leaders from other Ukrainian cities participating in Ukraine Aid International’s Sister City Partnership program.
After years of supporting Ukraine from a distance, meeting these frontline leaders in person offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand how they navigate their communities through the daily challenges of war. Please help spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors to ensure a strong community turnout for our guests.
TOWN UPDATE: 2026 ROAD PAVING PROGRAM GETS UNDERWAY
The Weston Department of Public Works has officially begun prep work for this fall’s paving season. Crews have been working this summer cleaning, repairing, and replacing storm water catch basins throughout town.
What You Need to Know:
Safety First: Please drive with extra caution and expect minor delays when passing through work zones.
Vendor & Timeline: We are partnering with Asphalt Repair Solutions again this year. We will share the exact start dates for paving as soon as the schedule is finalized.
The Big Picture: This marks Year 3 of the comprehensive multi-year paving plan developed with Beta Group—the largest road improvement program in Weston’s history.

Residents from participating towns (Bethel, Brookfield, Bridgewater, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, Newtown, New Milford, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, Weston, and Wilton) are welcome to attend any of the upcoming regional drop-off events.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS OPEN
Weston's Board of Police Commissioners is accepting nominations for its annual Citizen of the Year award, honoring an outstanding resident who demonstrates character, integrity, and dedication to our town. Selection committee chair Commissioner Harry Spencer invites community members to nominate individuals whose volunteer work, leadership, or public safety contributions have made a lasting, positive impact on Weston.
Submission Deadline: Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET
How to Nominate: Email your nomination detailing the individual’s achievements and impact to [email protected].
The recipient will be selected in November and presented with the award before year-end.

AMERICA250 EVENT: THE SUPREME COURT
Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
at Weston Public Library
More than ever, the U.S. Supreme Court seems to be at the center of every major legal and political issue. Why is that? What is the role of the Supreme Court? Is it more powerful than the President? What is the shadow docket and why is it controversial? To discuss these and other critical issues related to the Court and its decisions, the League of Women Voters of Weston will be presenting a timely event, “The Supreme Court: The Idea and the Reality”, on Saturday, September 12th beginning at 2:00 p.m. The program is part of Weston’s America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit series and will take place at the Weston Public Library Community Room. The event will feature the Honorable Albert M. Rosenblatt. Judge Rosenblatt has served on New York’s highest court, teaches at New York University School of Law, and has published numerous books on law and government. “The Supreme Court plays a critical role in our constitutional system as the final arbiter of the law of the land”, said Judge Rosenblatt. “I look forward to discussing that critical role, including how the Supreme Court was originally created, how it has evolved, and how it functions in today’s environment”. The event will be moderated by Dennis H. Tracey III, a litigation partner at international law firm Hogan Lovells Cadwalader and former Weston Selectman. Tracey, a litigator with decades of trial and appellate experience, said, “I am excited to be able to moderate a program with the esteemed Judge Rosenblatt, who can answer the questions we all have about the Supreme Court and how it works. It should be a fascinating discussion.” Following the initial presentation, questions from the audience will be taken as time allows. Light refreshments will be provided. INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT UPDATES
Weston Schools & Municipal Buildings Drinking Water System Improvements
The Town of Weston’s Drinking Water System Improvements Project reached an important milestone in August with completion of the Preliminary Design Report, moving the project another major step toward construction. The proposed improvements include a new water treatment and pumping facility, a 41,000-gallon water storage tank, upgraded pumping equipment, and new treatment systems designed to address PFAS, iron and manganese while providing additional capacity and resiliency for the Town’s schools and municipal buildings. The project is also included in the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s Draft SFY 2027 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Intended Use Plan, where Weston currently ranks #2 statewide with 135 priority points and has an identified project funding request of approximately $3.7 million, including an estimated $1.5 million associated with emerging-contaminant funding. With preliminary design now substantially advanced, the next steps are expected to include design review, geotechnical investigations, preparation of final plans and specifications, regulatory approvals, and completion of construction contract documents, with the consultant’s current schedule carrying these activities through approximately February 2027. Together, these milestones represent significant progress toward a modern, resilient drinking water system that will better protect water quality and serve Weston’s schools and municipal facilities for years to come.
DPW Roof Replacement and Solar Panel Installation
The Town of Weston’s DPW Roof and Solar Project is entering its final stage, marking another significant step in the Town’s investment in sustainable and energy-efficient municipal facilities. The $547,800 project, supported by $438,240 in State STEAP funding, began with replacement of the DPW garage and office roof, which was completed in March 2026. Since then, all solar panels have been installed, which will create an approximately 72-kilowatt rooftop solar energy system at the DPW facility. With the major construction and installation work now complete, the project is moving through final utility coordination, testing, commissioning and startup activities before the system begins full operation. The project is designed to help offset municipal energy use while advancing Weston’s broader goals for renewable energy, sustainability and resiliency, bringing the Town very close to realizing the long-term benefits envisioned when the project was first developed.
FOOD SCRAPS RECYCLING PROGRAM
Since the program launched more than 2 years ago, we have 300 participating households, and we diverted 45 tons of food scraps from the Municipal Solid Waste collection! The success of this program shows the dedication our residents have towards a more sustainable community. We thank you for your commitment. Reminders
BioBag refill rolls are available for purchase at the Transfer Station office. Cost is $2 per roll of 25 bags. Many residents compost at home, and some use curbside composting services, but many still throw food scraps in with regular trash, burdening the Municipal Solid Waste Stream. Please share the link above with neighbors and friends to encourage them to register.

Please make sure that you and your family are registered to receive emergency alerts from the Weston Office of Emergency Management. Weston’s Public Safety Team will continue to expertly guide us through storms by sending out texts, emails and automated phone calls via our Everbridge system. WESTPORT-WESTON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE
We’re excited to share to share that the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force has expanded and is now the Westport–Weston Domestic Violence Task Force. This change reflects the work we’ve already been doing together across both towns and our shared commitment to supporting individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. This move is about strengthening collaboration, expanding access to resources, and increasing our ability to reach people who may need support but don’t always know where to turn. The Task Force works closely with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) to raise awareness, provide education, and support families through community drives and outreach efforts. This expanded partnership allows us to do that work more effectively and with greater reach across both communities. Thrive with Movement with physical therapist Dr. Sachin Gianchandani, DPT, this hour-long exercise circuit class combines expert guidance with gentle, purposeful movement. Designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s, balance concerns, or mobility challenges, each class blends education and exercise to support strength and stability. Dial-A-Ride is a town service that provides transportation for Weston seniors (age 60 and above) and disabled residents to and from their homes. Transportation is provided Monday through Friday 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM (except town holidays). The service is used primarily for transportation to medical appointments (including dentist and therapy), in the towns of Westport, Norwalk, Georgetown, and Wilton. Appointments and cancellations are made by calling 203-222-2576 only (48 hours in advance). Please leave a message.
BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETINGS
Please feel free to attend BOS meetings where you can watch in person at the Town Hall Meeting Room or you can stream into the meetings, which are always posted on the Town website. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TOWN BOARDS
The following appointed boards have positions available: Building Committee, Sustainable Weston, Veterans Affairs Committee. The Town of Weston Board of Selectmen will conduct interviews of candidates for appointed boards, commissions and committees in private, unless the candidate requests that the interview occur in public. Through the CT Freedom of Information Act, the state legislature expressly allows the Town Board of Selectmen to hold non-public executive sessions to discuss “the appointment, employment, performance, evaluation, health or dismissal of a public officer or employee." C.G.S. § 1-200 (6)(a). Like Weston, several nearby municipalities have also implemented similar policies to protect residents interested in volunteering their service from the abuse of modern technology such as artificial intelligence, social media, and personal identity theft.
