Today, Westport Police, Fire and EMS welcomed Paul “Paulie” Veneto and Paulie’s Push to Westport!

Paulie is pushing an airline beverage cart more than 1,000 miles from Boston to Ground Zero to honor the flight crews who were the first “first responders” on September 11, 2001.

Together with First Selectman Kevin Christie, Westport Public Safety members escorted Paulie to the Norwalk town line.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, we’re proud to support Paulie’s mission to honor those who served and remember those we lost.

This year’s motto, “Everyone Pushes,” reminds us that we all have a role in carrying their memory forward.

Best of luck and safe travels, Paulie, as you continue your journey to Ground Zero. In Westport, “Everyone Pushes!”

This morning at Sherwood Island State Park, the Westport Fire Department joined first responders, riders, community leaders, families, and supporters for the opening ceremony of the 25th Annual CT United Ride — Connecticut’s largest 9/11 tribute.

For 25 years, the CT United Ride has brought thousands together in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and in honor of the first responders whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We are proud that this meaningful Connecticut tradition begins here in Westport and honored to once again be a part of it.

A special thank you to Fred Garrity, Jr., and all those who have worked tirelessly over the years to organize the CT United Ride and keep this important tradition of remembrance going strong.

The Westport Fire Department has added four drones to its emergency response capabilities. The drones will support storm damage and incident assessment, search and rescue operations, fire location, and other emergency management needs.

The Department currently has three licensed drone pilots and is continuing training to certify additional members.

“Drones give us another set of eyes during an emergency, allowing us to quickly assess conditions, gather critical information, and make better-informed decisions while keeping our personnel safe. This technology will be especially valuable during severe weather, search and rescue operations, and incidents where getting a clear picture of the scene quickly can make a significant difference.”

— Deputy Chief Matthew Cohen
