Good Morning Everyone!

As we gear up for the fireworks display at Zamberletti Park tonight, here is a critical reminder regarding department operations and parking around the station:

Parking at the Westville Area Fire Protection District (including our station, administration building, and the gravel lot to the West) is strictly restricted to emergency responders only.

Unauthorized vehicles will be towed immediately at the owner's expense. Keeping our bay doors clear and our gravel lot open ensures our crews can respond to emergency calls and deploy to the fireworks launch site without delay.

Please review the update below from the Westville Police Department regarding road closures on Weese Pkwy and Moses Ave, school lot restrictions, and parking details for tonight, Sunday, September 6th.

Please plan to arrive early as parking is very limited around Zamberletti Park. You may need to drop off your party, then park several blocks away and walk.
Weese Pkwy. (between Westville Junior High School and Zamberletti Park) will close at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Moses Ave. on the North side of Zamberletti park will close to all traffic at approximately 8:00 p.m. No traffic will be permitted on Moses Ave. after 8:00 p.m. including residents, until after fireworks and fire department personnel give the all clear. Please plan to be at your destination well before the planned road closures.
There will be no parking allowed in the parking lot of Westville Jr. High School, or on Moses East of Westville Jr. High School due to proximity to fireworks. ANY VEHICLES PARKED IN THESE AREAS WILL BE TOWED.
We anticipate the closure to end at approximately 9:00 p.m. once all clear is received from Westville Fire and Fireworks personnel.
Please obey all restricted parking areas, they are in place for safety, and traffic flow.
ANY VEHICLES PARKED IN RESTRICTED AREAS WILL BE TOWED PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF FIREWORKS.
PLEASE PLAN TO ARRIVE EARLY AND ANTICIPATE THE NEED TO WALK SEVERAL BLOCKS.

With all of the Labor Day weekend events taking place at Zamberletti Park today, this is a friendly reminder that parking at the Westville Area Fire Protection District (the station, administrative building, and the gravel lot to the West) is strictly restricted to emergency responders only.

Unauthorized vehicles are subject to being towed. Anyone parking in front of an apparatus bay door or blocking an emergency vehicle will be towed immediately at the owner's expense so our crews can respond to calls without delay.

Please see the update below from the Westville Police Department regarding road closures, detour routes, handicapped access, and the park-and-ride shuttle at Judith Giacoma School for today, Saturday, September 5th.

Road Closure and Parking Information for Saturday September 5, 2026

Westville Police Department announces road closure and parking information for events at Zamberletti Park on Saturday September 5, 2026. Notice regarding road closures, traffic pattern changes, and parking near Zamberletti Park for Saturday September 5, 2026.
E. Williams St. on the South side of Zamberletti Park between N. State and Jefferson will close at approximately 1:00 p.m.
Weese Pkwy. between Moses and E. Williams St. will close at approximately 3:00 p.m.
For through traffic from Moses Ave. please use the connecting road behind Westville Junior High School to Madison St.
Washington and Adams St. North of E. Short St. will be restricted to residents only due to the complete closure of E. Williams St. Residents in these areas will need to exit to the South toward E. Main St.
For those looking for additional vehicle parking, we encourage you to park at Judith Giacoma School located at 200 S. Walnut St.
A shuttle will provide transportation to and from Zamberletti Park.
For handicapped visitors there will be a handicapped parking area on Moses Ave. near the basketball courts, with handicap access into the park on the West side of the basketball courts.
Please be advised that additional parking restrictions are in place around Zamberletti Park and will be enforced. Anyone parking in restricted areas may be towed.

The Westville Police Department and the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees of the 2026 Westville Labor Day Parade.

To enhance public safety efforts, Westville Police Department has requested the Sheriff's Department utilize Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) throughout the event to assist with the real-time monitoring of participant safety and event operations.

REAL-TIME AWARENESS
Advanced aerial technology allows us to quickly assess conditions and respond to incidents as they happen. This capability provides valuable situational awareness for public safety personnel and supports coordinated emergency response when needed.
The use of UAS technology supports our mission to provide a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the event.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
For the safety of event attendees, recreational drones are not permitted at the 2026 Westville Labor Day Parade. Unauthorized drone operations may create hazards for event attendee’s, emergency response activities, and public safety efforts.

With recent heavy rainfall, water levels across the district are extremely high, and multiple roadways in the Grape Creek and Hawbuck areas are currently under water.

Even if rainfall tapers off, water levels in these low-lying spots may continue to rise or stay submerged due to Backwater Flooding.

🌊 Why Roads Are Flooding Here:
Local runoff from our neighborhoods drains into Grape Creek, Hawbuck Creek, and surrounding ditches, heading toward the Vermilion River and ultimately the Wabash River.

Because the Vermilion and Wabash are swollen from heavy rainfall downstream, they are completely full and acting like a bottleneck. Water coming out of Grape Creek and Hawbuck can no longer empty into the river system normally. Instead, water gets pushed backwards, inundating local roads, fields, and low-lying properties.

⚠️ What Drivers & Residents Need to Know:

Water may keep rising: Backwater flooding often crests hours or days after the rain stops as upstream runoff continues flowing down.

Road shoulders & ditches are invisible: Water on rural roads hides deep ditch lines, washed-out pavement, and soft shoulders.

Water recedes slowly: Roads will remain impassable until main river levels drop enough to allow local tributaries to drain.

🚨 Safety Reminders from the Westville Area Fire Protection District:

Turn Around, Don't Drown: Never drive past high water barricades or attempt to cross flooded roadways. It takes less than 12 inches of moving water to carry a vehicle away.

Do not drive around "Road Closed" signs: They are placed to protect you from unseen hazards under the surface.

Keep back from swollen banks: Saturated ground along Grape Creek and local drainage channels can easily collapse.

Our crews are actively monitoring roads and water levels across Grape Creek, Hawbuck, and the entire district. Please slow down, drive with extreme caution, and call 911 for any emergency!

📢 An Important Update Regarding Our Annual Fish Fry 📢

To our Westville Community,

We want to share a quick update regarding our traditional Annual Fish Fry. With our long-time fish fry vendor no longer offering their services, along with our ongoing station construction project, we had to make the difficult decision to take a pause on the Fish Fry this year.

However, we aren't letting this tradition go! Our firefighters are currently working behind the scenes to see if we can effectively transition this into an in-house, firefighter-run event for next year.

We look forward to hopefully firing up the fryers ourselves and welcoming everyone back to St. Mary’s Church Gym next season for a great community meal!

Thank you all for your patience and your continued support of the Westville Area Fire Protection District. We look forward to seeing everyone along the parade route on Labor Day!

Please see the following post from Westville Police Department, Westville Illinois regarding Northbound Traffic Signal Pattern Change at Main and Route 1 that begins Tuesday July 28, 2026

The Illinois Department of Transportation has installed digital message boards near the intersection warning drivers of the upcoming change.

This change is being implemented by the Illinois Department of Transportation in response to a request from the Village of Westville & the Westville Police Department, Westville Illinois. This request was due to the large number of traffic crashes that we have experienced at this intersection.

Drivers should be aware of this change as they travel through this intersection.

This is an example of one of the trainings from the Illinois Fire Service Institute Explorer Cadet Fire School, it is a LP burn. The strategy and tactics here are to learn how to safely approach a liquid propane tank that is actively on fire, and how to approach it while flowing water to keep the tank cool, protect you and your team from the flames while not putting the fire out, and position your water pattern so that you can get to the valve to shut it off. There is more to it, that is the Readers Digest version of it.
