It's not a secret that volunteer fire departments are hurting for members. It's also not a secret that most fire calls are medical oriented.

Our friends at Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department are tackling the need by recruiting for medical responders. If you meet the qualifications, please set up and help!

🚑 Join the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department!
We’re looking for Emergency Medical Responders to help provide critical care at the scene of emergencies and support our firefighters during rehab operations.

Requirements:
• Must have or be able to obtain EMR-Basic commission
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Problem-solving ability
• Must be at least 18 years old

If your home, property, trees, utilities, or farm were damaged by the recent derecho, please take a few minutes to report the damage to Indiana 211.

Your report helps local, state, and federal officials understand the extent of the damage and determine what resources may be needed to help our communities recover.

UPDATED Aug. 11 at 5:03 p.m.

Following today’s storm and severe weather, Indiana 211 is accepting damage reports for LaPorte, Newton and Porter counties.

To help establish a comprehensive assessment of damage, residents can call 866-211-9966 or visit the Indiana 211 website (on.in.gov/IN-211).

Collecting assessments via this process will help IDHS determine damage estimates and develop the next course of action in the disaster recovery process.

PC SAR and the will be training this afternoon at Big Maple Lake, off of Ainsworth Rd. If you see a bunch of emergency vehicles in the area, don't worry it's just us.

With the recent missing persons cases on the newspaper, we wanted to post a reminder to our Public Safety partners.

If you have a missing person who is really young, really old, or has a medical or mental health issue, you need to call us.

If you think you need something "special" to find your missing person, like a drone, helicopter or K9, then you need to call us.

Just get ahold of Porter County Dispatch, and have us toned out. It's just that easy. If you find them before we show up, no worries. But we rather be called and not needed than never called.....
