The Westwego Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the Town of Jean Lafitte Police Department and the family of Chief Marcell Rodriguez on his passing.

Chief Rodriguez dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community he loved — a true servant leader who made a lasting impact on the people of Jean Lafitte and the law enforcement family across Jefferson Parish.

He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his officers, and the entire Jean Lafitte community during this difficult time.

The United Cajun Navy participated in an early morning meeting with several leadership members from the City of New Orleans, including Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Michael Harrison, NOHSEP Director Darrick Heason, and Emma Skilbred.

During that meeting, UCN was made aware of a missing child alert involving a 14 year old juvenile believed to be in danger. Incident Commander Josh Gill immediately distributed the information to team members, who began searching for the missing child.

By the evening, the team successfully located and made contact with Ja’niyah Price. She was found in the company of two adult males, and all parties were brought to a secure location to await law enforcement.

UCN then contacted the Westwego Police Department and the New Orleans Police Department to assist with the recovery of the missing juvenile. We are deeply grateful to our partners at the Westwego Police Department for their quick, professional, and courteous response.

Because of this coordinated effort, a family was given closure in the safe recovery of their child. An arrest was also made on a prior warrant involving one of the adult males, who had previously been accused of having relations with a juvenile.

This outcome reflects the power of partnership, rapid communication, and decisive action when the safety of a child is at stake.
