Our officers will be very diligent about removing impaired drivers from the roadways this holiday weekend.

We would much rather point you to a safe ride home than point you to the side of the road.

If your celebration involves alcohol, make a plan before your first drink. Choose a designated driver, rideshare, or spend the night.

Have fun, enjoy the holiday, and celebrate responsibly.
Let’s make sure everyone gets home safely.

We will be watching… because your safety is worth it.

Yesterday was training day at the range for our officers.🚔

Regular training helps ensure we maintain the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to serve our community safely and effectively. While we hope these skills are never needed, being prepared is part of the promise we make to the people we serve.

We are grateful to serve this community and proud to call at home.

E-Bike vs. E-Moto
They both run on a battery.
They both have two wheels.
Under Kansas law, they are not the same.

Know the difference! As electric micro-mobility options grow, the distinction between e-bikes and e-motos matters for safety and the law.

E-Bikes (Electric Assisted Bicycle):
–Have functional pedals and a motor no greater than 750 watts.
–Have an assist motor that shuts off once you hit a certain speeds.(depending on classification)
–Are treated the same as a bicycle. That means no driver’s license, registration, or insurance is required. Riders must yield to all pedestrians and follow all bicycle traffic laws and ordinances.
–Are the safest and most recommended option.

Electric Motorcycles, or E-Motos, Dirt Bikes and Motorcycles:
–Have no functioning pedals and can reach much higher speeds.
–Built more like a motorcycle
–Classified as a motor vehicle.
–Valid license, registration and insurance are required.
–Not permitted on sidewalks or bike paths.
–Are high-performance machines, NOT toys.

Operating an E-Moto without a license, insurance, proper equipment or on a sidewalk can lead to citations, fines and impoundment of the vehicle. It is against the law for anyone without a driver's license to operate a motorcycle or an e-moto.
If you have questions about local ordinances or your child's bike, please contact the Westwood Police Dept. at 913-362-3737.
