History: The Westworth Village Fire Department proudly protects 3100 residents and a diverse commercial area within 2.5 square miles. The department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The City of Westworth Village was established in 1941. The first fire coverage for the city was provided by the River Oaks Fire Department from 1941 to 1986. Over the next year coverage was provided by the City of Fort Worth. In October of 1987 the city established Ordinance 129, creating the Westworth Village Volunteer Fire Department. The department officially began operation on January 1, 1988 under the leadership of Tony Scarlato. The department obtained its initial training from Jim Nichols, a well known fire instructor, at the Burton Hill Baptist Church. The city purchased a 1968 American Lafrance Engine and a 1965 Ford Engine that were operated out of City Hall. On August 27, 1988, the Westworth Village Fire Hall was dedicated as the Rose Koldin Armstrong Fire Station where it now stands at the intersection of Hwy 183 and Koldin Lane. The building was purchased as a kit $11,000 and constructed by the Civil Engineers from Carswell Air Force Base and Tarrant County. Initially the department responded to fire calls only, with all EMS run by Medstar Ambulance. In 1993 the Westworth Fire Department began to run the Ambulance service for the city. This lasted until 1996 when the city elected to once again contract with Medstar after Sansom Park, our back up ambulance service, elected to do the same. As a part of the new Medstar contract, the Westworth Fire Department began first responding on EMS calls. Leadership has changed a few times in the departments' 15 years of service. Beginning with Tony Scarlato, Fire Chiefs have included James Scarlato, Kenny Wilson, Paul Bales and the current Chief Don Day.
