Please join us in congratulating Emma Nummy in not only passing her EMT Basic course, but also the EMT-B National Registry!! Emma is only 16 years old, making her one of the youngest Nationally Registered EMTs in the state of Alabama!! What a feat!!

Emma Nummy is the daughter of one of our own here at Santuck and she is following in her father's footsteps with a passion for helping others! Her father, Alan Nummy, is a firefighter/Advanced EMT for Santuck and Eclectic FD. He also holds the title of EMS Director at Eclectic FD. While Emma has asserted that she will leave the firefighting aspect to her father, she would love to work alongside him doing medical.

We are so very proud of her and her accomplishments! We look forward to seeing her grow as an EMT and help out the Santuck community with this newly obtained knowledge!

Congratulations, Emma! You did it! 🎉

June 1-7 is National CPR and AED Awareness Week! This week each year highlights how knowing and utilizing CPR/AED skills can help save more lives.

Did you know that about 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in homes? That means if you are called on to give someone CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of a loved one! What if it was your parent, spouse, or child? Be the difference, learn CPR and help save lives!!

Phew, what an afternoon!! Santuck was dispatched to numerous storm related calls this afternoon. All the calls we have been made aware of have been taken care of at the present time. Please proceed with caution when on the roads and alert dispatch if you come across more storm damage that we need to handle.

One of the bigger calls we had today was a tree down on the bridge at 1 Milam Road. The large tree had the roadway completely blocked and Santuck personnel had to tackle cutting and removing the tree from both Milam and Williams Road side. Thankfully, we have a member who brought out their tractor to help move some of the bigger limbs out of the roadway quicker than doing so by hand.

Elmore County Public Works also showed up with heavy equipment to help handle the tree so that we could get the road back open to the public as quickly as possible. We are very much appreciative of their hard work!

Milam Road has been cleared and is open for regular use, but please be cautious.

Thank you for your patience while we worked all over the Santuck district to clear the roads of any obstructions this afternoon!

Tommy Sanford, our Fire Chief, is an incredible man! His dedication to serving the Santuck community is unmatched! He has spent over 50 years serving the Santuck community with genuine love and compassion.

Tommy Sanford is one of the most hard-working, god-fearing men you will ever meet. He takes pride in protecting the Santuck community and everyone in it.

Dedication in this field means responding when the tones drop regardless of what time the call comes through or what the call is. Emergencies do not wait for convenience. They come at all hours of the day and night. They come when you've already been on multiple calls that same day. They come after you've worked a long shift and just want to relax and spend time with your loves ones. They come when you're exhausted. But emergency responders like Tommy Sanford, even at almost 75 years old, will jump up and rush out the door in hopes that their response can be the difference in life or death, property saved or property lost, utter devastation or a happy ending.

We have an amazing Chief at Santuck FD, and without his leadership, the department and the community would not feel the same. Tommy Sanford has helped make Santuck home for so many that know him.

Please join us in thanking him for his service throughout his lifetime, and here's hoping for many more years to come!

At 18:35 PM, Santuck was dispatched to the 8300 block of Central Plank Road for an MVA — car versus tree. Upon arrival, Santuck personnel found that the driver had self-extricated prior to emergency responders arriving on scene.

Santuck personnel immediately began patient assessment and identified multiple injuries of varying severity. During the initial evaluation, the patient's condition began to deteriorate. Haynes arrived on scene shortly after and assumed patient care.

Haynes and Santuck personnel worked together to safely immobilize the patient utilizing a backboard before transferring the patient to a stretcher and into the ambulance. Haynes worked to stabilize the patient prior to transport to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Once patient care and transport were completed, the scene was then turned over to the state and all Santuck units went back in service.
