Every second counts in cardiac arrest emergencies. During National CPR and AED Awareness Week, itโ€™s important to remember this simple two-step method that can help save a life: call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest, humming a song like Staying Alive can help you maintain the lifesaving pace. With nearly 70% of cardiac arrests happening at home, hands-only CPR can be just as effective as traditional CPR.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week

Children and infants aren't just smaller versions of adults, and CPR techniques can differ when responding to a pediatric emergency.

Because many cardiac emergencies involving children and infants are related to breathing issues, rescue breaths play an especially important role. Knowing how to recognize an emergency, call 911, begin CPR, and use an AED can help save a young life while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Take a few moments to review these child and infant CPR basics. The knowledge you learn today could make a difference when seconds matter most.

๐Ÿšจ SCAM ALERT ๐Ÿšจ

If you receive a call that sounds something like this:

๐Ÿ“ž "Are you aware your son has been booked into the Bay County Jail?"
๐Ÿ“ž "I work with BCSO in Bonds and Booking."
๐Ÿ“ž "Special arrangements have been made for his release, but you need to pay a $1,500 bond through an FDIC platform right now."
๐Ÿ“ž "This is a one-time offer. If you don't act immediately, he may have to stay in jail for months."
..it's a SCAM.

The scammer may claim to work for the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Bonds and Booking, or even the Clerk of Court. They may sound professional, have personal information, and try to pressure you into making an immediate payment.

Here's what you need to know:

โŒ The Bay County Sheriff's Office will never call you demanding payment for someone's release from jail.
โŒ We will never instruct you to send money through an online platform, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any other electronic payment method over the phone.
โŒ Scammers create a sense of urgency to keep you from thinking clearly or verifying their story.

โœ… If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.
โœ… Contact the Bay County Sheriff's Office directly using a trusted phone number if you have concerns about a loved one.
โœ… Report the scam so we can help warn others.

Remember: if someone is demanding money right now and claiming they're doing you a "special favor," there's a very good chance the only thing getting booked is your bank account.

Do you know anyone with special medical needs that would require support during an emergency? The Florida Department of Health and local emergency management agencies developed a registry for individuals with special needs that would require assistance during a disaster.

Special needs shelters are for those with disabilities or who require medical care that exceeds basic first aid. Pre-registration is important so emergency responders can ensure space is reserved for those in greatest need.
