Wewoka Firefighters have been dealing with some unfortunate living situations in the past couple of months. At the end of September, contractors began demolition for a long overdue remodel for the upstairs of the fire house. A day after the demolition took place, contractors were let go after just 3 hours of work. Wewoka Firefighters were told that the remodel process would have to start over from the very beginning, which could take up to 2 months to get a new contracting bid and to begin the remodel. Wewoka Firefighters were relocated to a hotel in early October, then abruptly moved back to the Fire Station last week due to hazardous conditions at the hotel. Firefighters then had to return to the station with the conditions shown in the media below. The Wewoka Firefighters are split up into 3 different shifts, each working 48 hours or more at the station, and are expected to deal with the black mold, no kitchen, and no shower. It has gotten to the point where we are making this post for the public to see. We need the citizens of Wewoka and surrounding departments support to fix this ongoing issue.
