Thursday, February 26th 9:30AM Town of Weymouth Storm Update from Mayor Michael Molisse:

Thursday, February 26th | 9:30AM Update from Mayor Molisse:

This morning I had a call with Mass DOT about the terrible conditions and incredible need for widening on Rt. 18. MassDOT was very responsive and is sending crews over ASAP to address this situation.

They stated that this work could be difficult during the day due to heavy traffic, but that crews will be out there and will continue working tonight as MassDOT is very committed to addressing this situation for Weymouth. Thank you to MassDOT for their support.

Weymouth DPW worked throughout the night widening roads and clearing sidewalks, and this work continues today. Thank you to all these crews who continue the around the clock work needed to make our town passable and safe.

Regarding the South Weymouth water main break at Cherry Lane/Rustic Drive, that issue has been repaired and water service has been returned to normal.

Please remember that schools are open today. Please be cautious of students that are traveling to and from school!

Finally, please be aware that the State of Emergency and the parking ban in Weymouth remain in effect.

Be safe, and thank you for your extended patience as we move forward.

WEYMOUTH STRONG!

Please be sure to:
*Allow extra time for any commuting you may be doing
*Be extra cautious at intersections, bus stops, and along walking routes
*Allow ample space between vehicles should you need to stop for any reason

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 26 will be trash pickup for residents typically scheduled for Wednesday pickup.

Please be aware that crews are continuing the repair work on the Cherry Lane/Rustic Drive water main break.

I thank you for your patience and support during this challenging time for our community and the Commonwealth.

Morning Storm Update from Town of Weymouth Mayor Michael Molisse

2/24 9am Morning Update from Mayor Molisse:

DPW crews and contractors worked in tandem throughout the night to widen roads. This work will continue throughout the day today.

The parking ban is still in effect on all Weymouth roads to ensure our crews have access to continue clearing our streets. The State of Emergency also remains in effect for the Town of Weymouth.

Power has been restored to most of our residents. We will be updating the status of trash pickup for tomorrow once we confirm with EZ Disposal. We hope to have that information out to you later today.

Town offices, libraries, and schools are closed and all activities are cancelled today. However, please rest assured that our Command Center at DPW is fully staffed, and we are here for our residents.

This evening at 7pm, the DPW will begin the clearing of sidewalks and Town Squares such as Weymouth Landing, Jackson Square, Central Square, and Columbian Square.

Snow removal will be a work in progress. My team and I will be having a group meeting this afternoon to assess where we are and make any needed changes.

Crews have been working around the clock, and I appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this clearing process. It takes time!

Again, we owe a large thank you to our DPW crews & staff, Police & Fire, Emergency Management, South Shore Hospital EMS, Public Health Nursing staff, the Red Cross staff at our warming center, and the team from National Grid. With the dedication and support of all these professionals, we are where we are today.

Thank you, and continue to be Weymouth Strong!

Due to the sporadic electrical outages in town,
a temporary warming center has been established.

If you have an issue that may need to be addressed, please contact the Mayor’s Emergency Hotline number: 1-800-335-8606

02/23/2026

REMINDER: A state of emergency has been declared in Massachusetts and we are urging drivers to keep the roads clear and avoid travel if at all possible.

Since midnight, the majority of Weymouth Police Department calls for service have been for disabled vehicles. Those vehicles require first responders, emergency workers, and tow trucks to be out on the roads in poor visibility conditions.

Please do your part and stay home to keep yourself and others safe.

Storm Update from Mayor Molisse:

As we are currently in the peak of this intense Nor’Easter we extend a huge thank you to our public works crews, plow drivers, and First Responders who are out there in these extremely dangerous conditions.

With intense wind gusts peaking at over 70 mph and incredibly high snowfall rates, please stay off the roads and let our crews perform their work.

I am in constant contact with DPW Director, Emergency Management, and the Police and Fire Chiefs so that I can keep all residents updated as we move forward.

I am also in direct contact with National Grid. Currently, we have 1592 homes, or 5 percent of the town without power. They have crews and contractors in town trying to restore, but wind is hindering restoration.

I will keep everyone updated through town social channels. Please stay safe! We are all working to get us through this intense weather event.

Thank you!
