It breaks my heart to say this, but it happens all the time: waterfowl caught in discarded fishing line.
These thin, nearly invisible strands wrap around wings, legs, beaks—even necks. Sometimes there’s a hook at the end. Sometimes that hook is buried deep inside a bird’s throat. Rescues are never easy. Often, it takes boats, teams of people, and a lot of patience to safely capture the tangled bird.
And even then, the damage can be devastating.
This young gosling was found with fishing line wrapped tightly around his right leg and wing. His parents couldn’t help him. But kind strangers came together and made sure he got to us. A huge thank you to Tracy and her husband Jim along with Aimee and her daughter for taking the time to rescue this little one.
We’re doing everything we can to save his leg and wing. Geese can’t survive on one leg or one wing - so this is a fight for his life.
PLEASE dispose of your fishing line properly. One careless moment can cost a wild animal everything.
