For this week's , we've got a glittering historical fiction based on the story of a real Black American family in the 1910s! The Davenport family are an affluent Black family at a time in America when such a thing is rare, and their three children are entering society at a time of great change. Eldest daughter Olivia is under pressure to make a good match, but gets swept up in the civil rights movement instead. The family's maid, Amy-Rose, pines after the Davenports' extremely eligible son, John--who's also being pursued by Olivia's best friend. Romantic intrigue, social constraints, and an examination of Black life post-Reconstruction, fans of historical fiction (and of Bridgerton!) will enjoy this one for sure. Available today at Tufts Library.
