Wharton County Agriculture - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Through the application of science-based knowledge, we create high quality, relevant continuing education that encourages lasting and effective change.

The purpose of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Wharton County is to educate residents in agriculture, environmental stewardship, youth and adult life skills, human capital and leadership, and community economic development. The Wharton County Agriculture & Natural Resources program focuses on improving and maintaining agriculture, crop and animal practices while addressing issues like

environmental impacts within our community, crop production, water maintenance such as contamination or accessibility, and natural resources management.

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), in cooperation with Texas AgriLife Extension, operates agricultural pesticide waste and pesticide container collection activities statewide. The next pesticide waste collection event will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 8AM – Noon at the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds, 1213 Terry Shamsie Blvd, Robstown, TX 78380. The annual Western Rice Belt Production Conference will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the El Campo Civic Center. The Rice Conference is composed of a Production Conference for rice producers and rice industry professionals, and a Rice Consumers Seminar for homemakers. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Wharton County Office announces a Hay Field Day and Seminar for Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Hungerford, Texas. We’re offering a two-part program on June 1st. A field day with hay equipment demonstrations and sprayer demonstrations will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023. The second part of the June 1st program is the Hay Seminar to begin with a TDA Pesticide Laws and Regulations Presentation by TDA Pesticide Inspector, Stephanie Theriot at 5:30 p.m. at Hungerford Hall. 1 CEU in Laws and Regulations will be offered to TDA Pesticide License Holders attending the evening program at Hungerford Hall. A Meal will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Wharton, Matagorda, Jackson, and Colorado Counties are happy to announce the Upper Gulf Coast Feed Grain and Cotton Conference for Tuesday, January 24, 2023. This year’s conference will be held in Crescent Hall at the Wharton County Fairgrounds at 6036 FM 961 Road Wharton, Texas 77488. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with our first speaker beginning at 8:30 a.m. The conference will include a catered lunch meal will conclude at 1:45 p.m. 3 CEUs will be awarded to pesticide license holders with the Texas Department of Agriculture (2 IPM, 1 L&R); and 5.0 CEUs for Certified Crop Advisors have been applied for.
