Edwards Musings

Edwards Musings The place for ideas and initiatives that will drive economic growth and social prosperity for Western Massachusetts. Governor.

There are 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts – and only one candidate who is already working with and helping them on a daily basis: Jonathan Edwards. I am the candidate for Lieutenant Governor with extensive and current local government experience. I have been working in our communities for decades and will work on behalf of each of the 351 cities and towns. I will give cities and towns, alon

g with our residents and businesses an ear, a voice and a partner in the State House. I led my town and worked in partnership with others to form the municipal partnerships that fixed the regional senior center

I led my town and worked collaboratively with others to create a three-town regional ambulance service, proving unprecedented 24 hour – 7 day a week paramedic level ambulance service. I led my town to build a working relationship with other towns to successfully become a Massachusetts Solarize town, giving our residents the opportunity to lower their electric bills and fight climate change, and growing job opportunities in the clean tech sector. I led my town to become a Green Community, adopting the Massachusetts Stretch Code, reducing town energy demand by 20% and making clean energy installations easier across the community. As the President of a Youth Baseball League and coach of many youth sports, I have actively worked with families across my region to give our children a safe and positive environment to grow and thrive outside of school. I will bring practical, real-life experience to the office of Lt. For decades I have been leading, managing and working within communities, while helping to grow the clean tech economy with high paying jobs. I will be a Lieutenant Governor that helps the administration build a jobs revolution, keeping our workforce and young and talented student population in the state, encouraging people to move to Massachusetts to build their careers and raise their families. I will be a Lieutenant Governor that demands continued actions to mitigate the disastrous consequences of climate change. This will be good for the environment while producing good, high paying jobs. I will be a Lieutenant Governor that will be a problem solver and work to encourage collaboration and compromise. I will be a Lieutenant Governor for each of the 351 cities and towns across our great state.

I admit I think that "Time for a Change" is sometimes a phrase that is too often used. But yes, even I am using it this time and think it is truly appropriate in this place and time.

I have gotten to know Joe Kennedy a bit and that is why I am supporting him and his candidacy for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. So others can also get to know Joe, I am co-hosting a Zoom Conversation on Thursday, July 23rd at 6:00pm. Send me an email at [email protected] if you would like to receive the Zoom address to learn more about Joe and ask him a question or two.

I hope you join us.

In the coming months, cities and towns across Massachusetts are going to face rising costs for their recyclable materials. Recycling needs to mature with the times and currently we are somewhat stuck in the past.

Demand for recycled products from China is decreasing and that probably isn't going to change anytime soon.

Perhaps it is time to get an expanded bottle bill referendum on the Massachusetts 2022 ballot. Cities and towns are going to have to find a revenue source for the added cost we face for the critical action of recycling. If we don't find an added revenue source, we are going to have to take from other budgets. And we should all agree that we don't want to discourage recycling. More materials need to be recycled, not less.

We need to renewed debate on how the bottling industry can cover waste costs from their incredibly successful products. Because as it stands now, cities and towns are going to pay for their rising profits and diverse product lines. Let's work together to find a solution that works for everyone. Maybe an expanded bottle bill is the answer.

Recycling has been a success in Western Massachusetts. It has been relatively inexpensive and provided a small revenue stream for some municipalities. Cities and towns have effectively combined good environmental stewardship with sound fiscal...

Like most organizations, the FCSA sometimes thinks about if we are making a difference or delivering a product/service that people find sufficiently worthwhile to give up an ever-precious night of very busy lives.

Recently we received this email from our October guest speaker, Yves Salomon-Fernandez, President of Greenfield Community College.

It is testimony to our work to keep forging partnerships across Franklin County and the knowledge that Franklin County is the best in Massachusetts at collaborative government.

Thank you to Yves for the kind words and we hope you come back many times. And for everyone else, please be on the lookout for publicity around our December meeting. As you can see below, they are great meetings and important to our collective success.

Dear Municipal Leaders,

I hope this email finds you well. Please forgive the tardiness of this note. I just want to say thank you so much for an engaging meeting last week and some delicious food for dinner. I enjoyed our exchanges and felt so invigorated at the end of what was already a long day. Thank you all for your service to our communities and for being so welcoming to me. I look forward to a long partnership serving the College and doing our part to advance our intellectual and socioeconomic prosperity in collaboration with all of our partners.

Many thanks.

My very best,

Yves

This is a wonderful interview of Michael Bennet by the team of Morning Joe. Democrats need Senator Bennet's voice in this race. He is a truly outstanding candidate.

2020 presidential candidate, Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Col., launches his first 2020 campaign ads in Iowa, and he joins Morning Joe to discuss the ads, health care and why he says most Americans are focused on things other than impeachment.

Well, the long campaign is over and I want to thank so many people for the blood, sweat, tears and resources you have given me. Together we started to talk about a campaign in February and after careful evaluation we jumped in to the deep part of the pool in March.

While the results weren't what I hoped for, the level of dialogue we brought to this race is everything I hoped for. You...my friends, family and supporters are a big part of our success in raising that level of debate.

This campaign increased dialogue and voter awareness on so many issues from climate change, to filling the workforce skills gap, to job creation, broadband, public transportation, reversing our populations trends, and so much more. But most of all we showed the importance of discussion and working with all persons and perspectives to find best practices with honesty, respect and integrity.

I look forward to working in the future with all my supporters and my amazing competitors Christine Doktor, Nathaniel Waring for State Representative, Casey Pease, Francia Wisnewski for 1st Franklin District State Representative, Kate Albright-Hanna and Natalie Blais for MA State Representative - 1st Franklin District. Together we discussed issues that impact all of Western Massachusetts. We must have a jobs renaissance in the hilltowns and across Franklin County. Going forward my plan is to continue to work to revitalize our economy and make sure it helps all adults and children thrive with good paying jobs and the best possible education.

In the meantime, I hope that all of my supporters will reach out to congratulate Natalie Blais for MA State Representative - 1st Franklin District for a very strong campaign and wish her the best possible results as our next state representative. She deserves our support, as the only path to success for our region is collaborative and regional partnerships.

Thanks again to everyone!
