We would like to congratulate Wheatley native Justin Holiday on graduating the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) in East Camden today! Justin is currently employed as a Deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and we are glad to have him back "next door" for whenever we need assistance!

We currently have issues with several dogs running loose within the City Limits, there currently is a City Ordenience requiring all dogs to be either on a chain / lead or within a pen / kennel. This will serve as warning, if you're animal is loose it could be taken to the humane society. Lastly there is a black lab mix male roaming town, we have received several reports about it being aggressive and attempting to bite members of the community and has attempted to bite one of our Officers on several occasions. To whomever owns said dog, please be aware our Officers will take whatever means necessary to protect themselves and members of this community.

As always with our extreme summer time temperatures we as that everyone use caution, please avoid prolonged exposure if possible, stay hydrated, and if possible be sure to check on those who are at risk for heat related injuries (children, elderly, those with severe medical problems). Also we would ask that you refrain from doing any sort of burning, our friends at the Wheatley Volunteer Fire Department would be greatly appreciate! Lastly, please avoid committing any criminal or traffic violations. No one wants to be on the side of the road in the heat not you, not our Officers. If you or anyone you know needs help in this heat, please feel free to contact one of our Officers or members of the Wheatley Volunteer Fire Department and we will gladly check on them.

We have received reports of motorists driving erratically, running other motorists off of the road, and failing to stop for cross traffic at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Arkansas Highway 78. If anyone has any further information about this or other incidents please come by Wheatley City Hall and fill out a voluntary statement so we can log this on-going issue. With that being said drivers who jeopardize their safety, the safety of other motorists, and property will no longer receive warnings. If you drive erratically and disregard posted signage to STOP you are putting your life and others lives at risk. Please, please be courteous to other drivers and pay attention to your surroundings!

We want EVERYONE to get home safely!
