The DuPage Housing Authority (DHA) and Kendall Housing Authority (KHA) announce the opening of the Rental Housing Support Program (RHSP) 2-Bedroom Waiting List.

Apply at www.dupagehousing.org (at the top of the page, locate the button for "Applicant Cafe")

What is RHSP?
The Rental Housing Support Program is a state funded program administered by both DuPage and Kendall Housing Authorities. RHSP funds the rent subsidies for severely low-income households. Households in the program will pay approximately 30% of their income in rent based on the contribution schedule. Unlike Section 8 or Housing Choice Voucher programs, participants must rent a specific unit with a specific eligible landlord.

Eligibility Requirements:
- 3-4 household members
- Must meet RHSP income and program eligibility requirements (see here: https://www.dupagehousing.org/dupage-rhsp)

Be ready to provide:
-Head of household contact information;
-A valid email address;
-Household income information;
-Names of all household members;
-Dates of birth for all household members;
-Social Security Numbers, if applicable; and
-Other demographic information requested on the application

In Illinois, Source of Income is protected under fair housing laws. That means that if you have a legal and verifiable way you earn your living, it can't be the reason you are denied housing. This includes residents using Housing Choice (or "Section 8") Vouchers.

But even in a State where they are protected by law, do Voucher holders still experience barriers to housing?

Through the support of Healing Illinois, an initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services, we set out to find the answer.

The result: our documentary, an informal look at the efficacy of the Voucher program in Illinois. By centering the voices of those impacted, we hope to inspire change and examine what else can be done to continue furthering housing opportunities for everyone.

"Open Communities and HOPE Fair Housing Center, along with the other members of the Illinois Housing Equity Collective, are in the early stages of creating a state pilot program to ask the state of Illinois to provide $5 million per year to support local fair housing protections related to disparate impact cases or state-protected classes under the Illinois Human Rights Act that are no longer supported by the federal government."
