Happy ! For generations, Northside Family Aquatic Center has been the backdrop for countless summer memories in our community. Captured through the lens of local photographer, Stuart S. Palmer, this scene shows the pool during a quieter moment in 1967. While the pool closed for the season on the 9th, Summer isn’t over just yet! Don’t forget Rice Pool & Water Park will be open on weekends through Labor Day, giving everyone one last chance to enjoy this classic summertime tradition.

We're revving up for our annual Halloween Party, Night at the Museum! 🏎️

This year's staff costumes are inspired by Cars, including our traffic cone hats—a nod to the cone-loving residents of Radiator Springs.

Today, we honor the service members who were wounded or lost their lives in combat while serving our nation. First created by George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the decoration was revived in 1932 as the Purple Heart. Perhaps surpassed only by the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart remains one of the nation’s most familiar and revered military decorations. We are fortunate to care for several Purple Hearts in our collection, including that of Warren J. Bailey, whose medal and story are currently featured in our exhibit Serving With Honor.

Happy ! This week, we’re featuring an impactful Illinois resident: Harold Edward "Red" Grange (June 13, 1903 – January 28, 1991). Nicknamed "the Galloping Ghost" and "the Wheaton Iceman", Grange was an American college and professional football halfback who played for Illinois, the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees. Grange became a nationally known celebrity in the 1920s and is often cited as one of the most iconic athletes of all time, as well as one of the greatest college football players ever and the biggest star of the early days of the NFL.

Happy National Sister’s Day! Today we’re celebrating the special bond between sisters with the story of Vivian, Edith, and Mildred (“Milly”) who grew up together in the Hinsdale/Downers Grove area on their family homestead, now part of York Woods Forest Preserve. The sisters were very close even though they had very different personalities. While each followed a different path—from teaching to music to genealogy to a little of everything—they remained closely connected throughout their lives. Whether by birth of by choice, the bond between sisters is one that often lasts a lifetime! 👭

For this month’s Discovering DuPage feature, we’re shining a spotlight on the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art. Since 1962, the museum has inspired visitors with its remarkable collection of gemstones, minerals, fossils, and lapidary art from around the world. This summer, their latest exhibit, “Enduring Symbols: Liberty Set in Stone” explores iconic symbols of freedom, unity, and resilience in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. From dazzling carvings to sparkling geodes, the Lizzadro offers a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and artistry found within the natural world. The Museum is open from 10am to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4pm on Sunday. To learn more, visit their website at lizzadromuseum.org.
