The Museum’s exhibits rotate every 9 months and feature hundreds of historic artifacts and photos along with many fun hands-on activities.

Happy ! This week, we’re highlighting an impactful historical figure with connections to Illinois: Juliette Gordon Low (1860-1927), founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Low founded the first Girl Scout troop in 1912, and what began with just 18 girls grew into a nationwide movement that influenced generations to come.
Low had strong family ties with Illinois as her mother, Eleanor Lytle Kinzie Gordon, belonged to the prominent Kinzie family of Chicago, where Low spent her early childhood. We also highlight this month as her birthday—it’s celebrated by the Girl Scouts as Founder’s Day. Notably, October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the disease that Low privately battled during the last few years of her life.

Our annual Halloween Party, Night at the Museum, is a choose-your-own-adventure Party! When the doors open at 6P the activities begin. The Disney Pixar film Cars will start at 6:30P. This week’s featured artifact is the Autumn 1966 edition of The Morton Arboretum Quarterly. This publication was initiated in the 1960s under the leadership of Suzette Morton to promote the study of botanical art, trees, and nature. For current and ongoing news, the Arboretum publishes Seasons, a member-focused magazine, and Greenmatters, an online resource for research and collection updates.
