⚠️PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY:
VEHICLE HEAT SAFETY
The Wheaton Police Department would like to remind everyone to stay extra vigilant during this heat advisory. Temperatures inside a parked car can reach lethal levels in just a few minutes, placing children and pets at extreme risk.
Please keep these critical safety tips in mind:
✅️Always Check the Backseat: Make it a habit to check the rear seats every time you park before walking away.
✅️Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even with the windows cracked or for "just a quick minute."
✅️Locked Inside? Call 911 (tel:911): If you, a child, or a pet becomes trapped or locked inside a hot vehicle and you have a cell phone, dial 911 (tel:911) immediately.
✅️Take Immediate Action: If you don't have a phone or help isn't immediate, beat continuously on the horn to attract attention, try every door handle, or do whatever is necessary to exit—including busting out a window for fresh air.
Your safety and the well-being of your family and pets are our top priority. Please stay cool, look out for one another, and help us keep Wheaton safe.

NOTICE: City of Wheaton Yard Waste/Burn Site POLICY CHANGE.
Due to repeated illegal dumping of unauthorized materials, access procedures for the City Yard Waste/Burn Site will change, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
PRE-DUMPING SCHEDULING & INSPECTION IS REQUIRED: Anyone needing to drop off yard waste or tree limbs must schedule an appointment prior to access to the City Yard Waste/Burn Site. The Site will remail locked at all times.
To Schedule a Pre-Dumping Inspection, please contact JoGina or Erica at City Hall 417-652-3314 Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. An inspection will be coordinated with the Wheaton Utilities Department or the Wheaton Police Department.
AUTHORIZED ITEMS: Yard Waste and Tree Limbs.
PROHIBITED ITEMS: Household trash, glass, cans, clothing, furniture, construction debris, anything with nails in it.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we appreciate your cooperation in keeping our facility clean and safe.

Residents on the Northwest side of town (W. Goostree, N. Gilman, N. Lamberson, W. Santee, N. Duncan) We are working on the water system and flushing the water hydrants which can cause discoloration in the water. We are asking you to flush your lines as well. Please run your faucets and spickets for a few minutes or until they run clear. Thank you.
