On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing people who were enslaved. However, slavery persisted in Texas until 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston to enforce this freedom.

Now, we honor June 19th as a day of liberation and empowerment. Let’s celebrate the journey towards equality and remember the significance of this important day!
