People's Resource Center Last year, PRC assisted nearly 25,000 low-income DuPage County residents, providing them with basic needs and programs to break the cycle of poverty.

Go to www.peoplesrc.org. Since 1975, People’s Resource Center has been bringing neighbors together to respond to hunger and poverty in DuPage County. With a team of over 2,600 volunteers, we offer nutritious food and other basic necessities like clothes and rent assistance for people facing tough times. We also connect people with resources—education and tutoring, jobs, technology, art, a caring community—to create a future of hope and opportunity for all.

On July 28, when the storm hit Wheaton and PRC’s power went out for 14 hours, our community showed up—neighbors helping neighbors. We are deeply grateful to everyone who responded with compassion, urgency, and generosity:

♥️Local partner food pantries and PRC’s Westmont location stepped in to receive the perishable food we were able to redirect.

♥️Volunteers and staff worked quickly to dispose of food that could not be safely redirected then readied the pantry when power was restored.

♥️Chicago area media came to shine a light on not only our loss but also PRC’s mission and our caring community.

♥️And, YOU, our neighbors! You immediately got to work spreading the word of our need and generously contributing money and food items.

Though it was heartbreaking for us to lose thousands of pounds of food, it was heartwarming to see how YOU ALL stepped up—even when many of you were facing hardships due to the storm. By Wednesday our food pantry was back open, serving our neighbors.

This was community at its very best—a powerful reminder that when neighbors care for neighbors, no one faces hardship alone. Thank you for standing with People's Resource Center.
