🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Saturday, May 23, 2026

The Wheeling Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to plan ahead for traffic impacts related to this weekend’s Ogden Newspapers Half-Marathon & Wellness Weekend events.

📍 Saturday, May 23
The Half-Marathon begins around 7:10 a.m. at 14th & Main Streets and is expected to conclude around 11 a.m.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
🚫 NO PARKING begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday in posted areas along the race route. Vehicles parked in marked zones will be towed.

📌 Affected areas include:
• Downtown Wheeling
• Center Wheeling
• South Wheeling
• Elm Grove Business District
• Fulton

🚌 OVRTA Route Change:
The downtown stop on Nailers Way will temporarily move to Market Street beside West Virginia Northern Community College.

🅿️ Recommended Parking:
Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center
(1401 Main Street) Please note that access will be available only from the Main Street entrance.

🚓 Drivers are encouraged to avoid the race route if possible, slow down near coned areas, and watch for runners, walkers, and officers directing traffic.

💪 Sunday, May 24:
Expect additional road closures and minor traffic delays in Downtown and Center Wheeling from noon until approximately 5 p.m. for the “Tough as Nails” Urban Challenge events.

👏The Wheeling Police Department took home several awards at this year's Region 4 Governors Highway Safety Program awards luncheon today. WPD was honored as the region's Top Agency, along with individual awards, including:

*Cpl. Gerald Mitchell (1st Place - Seatbelt Enforcement, 1st Place - Target Red Enforcement, 1st Place - Citations Written, 1st Place - Aggressive Driving, 2nd Place - Speed Enforcement)
*Pfc. Zach Herron (Most GHSP Hours worked, 2nd Place - Distractive Driving Enforcement, 2nd Place - Citations Written)
*Pfc. Patrick Ryan (2nd Place - Aggressive Driving, 2nd Place - Seatbelt Enforcement)

WPD joined forces today with Law Enforcement in Ohio and Pennsylvania and AAA East Central at the Claysville, PA I-70 rest stop for Operation C.A.R.E. - a Combined Accident Reduction Effort. Operation C.A.R.E. is a national program that is launched around Memorial Day each year with one goal in mind– to assure our highway users obey the law and drive safely to their destination.

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Weekend Road Closures for Ogden Half-Marathon/Wellness Weekend Events - May 23-24, 2026🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

The Wheeling Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to plan ahead for traffic impacts related to this weekend’s Ogden Newspapers Half-Marathon & Wellness Weekend events.

🧹 Friday, May 22:
Street sweeping in the Fulton area will take place from approximately 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. along National Road from Mount de Chantal Road to McColloch Street. Signage will be posted, and parking will resume once sweeping is complete.

• Parking will be permitted throughout the rest of the course, all day and evening.
