On August 17 and 18, the Village's contractor will be performing smoke testing on the Village's to check for defects. Smoke may appear where there are defects in the main sewer line or laterals or where there are other connections to the sewer system such as roof drains, patio drains, and footing drains. The smoke is non-toxic, low odor, creates no fire hazard, leaves no residue, dissipates quickly, and is harmless. Smoke may enter buildings if there is defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps in the house. For more information you may contact the Village's Public Works Department at 847-279-6900.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Tuesday for National Night Out. It was great to see residents, families, and neighbors come together for the evening.

We're especially grateful to the officers of the Wheeling Police Department for being there, connecting with the community, and continuing to build the relationships that keep our neighborhoods safe. Events like this are a reminder that public safety works best as a partnership between our department and the people we serve. A special thank-you to all our partners who joined us and helped make the night possible, we couldn't do it without you!

The airport was re-opened late last evening and has resumed normal operations. Thanks are owed to the airport crews and Wheeling and Prospect Heights public safety personnel for their quick and efficient work!

An aircraft accident caused a partial, temporary closure at Chicago Executive Airport this evening. No one was injured and airport operations will resume once all approvals to re-open are given.

Investing in the long-term health of our community, Wheeling is expanding its stormwater management plan with five new projects to prevent flooding, about $8.5 million in improvements planned between 2028 and 2031. Update: Train-Pedestrian Incident

WHEELING, IL – The Wheeling Police Department is providing the following update regarding this morning's train-pedestrian incident near Diens Drive.
The initial on-scene investigation by the Wheeling Police Department has concluded. The incident remains under investigation by the Metra Police Department.
According to Metra, train service on the Canadian National Railroad resumed at approximately 8:45 a.m. Vehicular traffic in the area was not impacted during the incident. The railroad crossings at Dundee Road remained open throughout the response.
