Don't Let Ticks Hike With You!

Ticks are most active in spring and summer, and wooded or grassy trails are prime spots to pick one up. Here's how to protect yourself before, during, and after your hike.

Getting Clarification on SMCMUA's New Billing System:

Recently, the Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA) sent out a notice to all customers concerning a new billing system. The Township was informed by a resident that the information on how to navigate the system and pay a water bill was ambiguous and lacked specific instructions as what to do. If you experience the same problem, please contact the SMCMUA and ask them to provide clear information on the different options in paying a water bill. The SMCMUA may be contacted by calling 973-326-6880 or emailing [email protected].

In 2026, Hanover Township will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States – the Nation’s semiquincentennial – and Whippany’s 350th anniversary. The celebration will span the year; involve people of all ages; honor those heroes who gave us our freedom; and point to the future, building on all that we have created in the past.

On June 14th, Flag Day, the Hanover Wind Symphony will perform a Colonial Concert at Memorial Junior High School.

July 1st will feature traditional fireworks preceded by a procession of Colonial reenactors at the annual Patriotic Celebration.

On July 4th, we will honor the Revolutionary Heroes resting in the Whippany Burying Yard.

Hanover Township Day (September 5) will include a large tent sheltering music, food, and more.

Our celebrations will conclude with a buffet luncheon on October 3 at the First Presbyterian Church of Whippany.

This year will feature ongoing initiatives, as well. Landmark Commission will partner with local property owners to beautify the Township. Our school students will be challenged and taught about the momentous events that happened here. We are planning a large granite monument to memorialize the history of Whippany and Washington’s Whippany headquarters.

We need volunteers! Email Assistant Business Administrator James Onorevole ([email protected]) or call 973-428-2497 to get involved.
