If it’s too good to be true, it’s probably not.

SCAM ALERT: A resident received a package in the mail that contained a letter and check for $3,800.

The letter explains the person was selected to complete a secret survey for Walmart and the check was to be used to cover expenses.

It goes on to ask the person to purchase three $1,000 money orders, then send a text to a phone number confirming the purchase.

Even though the letter and packaging appear to be real, this is a scam attempting to get money from you. If you receive this letter, just throw it away.

PennDOT is announcing the closure of the northbound Route 837 ramp (River Road) under the Rankin Bridge in Whitaker will occur Thursday and Friday, June 23-24 weather permitting.

The ramp that carries northbound Route 837 under the Rankin Bridge will close to traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Northbound traffic will use the ramp to the Rankin Bridge to continue on northbound Route 837. Southbound Route 837 will be narrowed to accommodate the additional lane. Police and flaggers will assist motorists through the intersection.

Crews from First Call Environmental will conduct remediation work on the hillside adjacent to the closed ramp.

Patrolman Frederick Lippert succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he was struck by a pickup truck while directing traffic on the Rankin Bridge.

FRAUD ALERT: The Whitehall Borough Police Department is investigating possible contractor fraud involving Corr Construction of McKeesport, Pa.

A company representative will provide the homeowner with an estimate for asphalt paving, then return to only place a seal coat on the existing surface. One elderly resident came close to losing $3000 as a result of this scheme.

Corr Construction has been passing out flyers and soliciting without a permit over the past week or two, which leads us to believe there may be additional residents who fell victim to this scheme.

Company representatives are driving a black Dodge Ram Pickup and towing a utility trailer.
