***Update*** Our friend was brought to the Otter Lake Animal Care Shelter to be looked over properly until reunited with their owner. Thanks for looking!

Okay, this is a new one...we found a bird near the 3800 block of Prairie Road! Although we don't mind it hanging out, we're guessing the owner would like it back. Please be prepared to show proof of ownership. If you are the owner, or know of them, please contact WBLPD. Thanks!

Today, we remember Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Ted Foss, who was struck and killed by a passing vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on August 31, 2000.

His story reminds us why Minnesota’s Move Over Law matters. Drivers, remember:

➡️ If you’re on a road with two or more lanes going the same direction, move over one full lane when approaching a stopped authorized, stalled, or disabled vehicle with hazard lights activated.

➡️ If you can’t safely move over, slow down.

➡️ The law also requires drivers to move over or slow down when people are visibly outside a vehicle on or next to the roadway.

When you move over, you’re helping protect the people who work to keep our roads and communities safe. Moving over helps everyone get home safely!

Congratulations, Officer Connor Dillon!

We are proud to recognize Officer Connor Dillon, who was named a 2026 Metro DWI Enforcer All-Star by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety!

Connor joined fellow DWI All-Stars from across Minnesota at Target Field, where they were recognized during today's Minnesota Twins game for their outstanding efforts to keep impaired drivers off our roads.

This recognition represents more than enforcement numbers—it represents crashes prevented, lives potentially saved, and a continued commitment to making our community and Minnesota roadways safer.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Dillon on this well-deserved recognition!

For our White Bear Lake fairgoers .... traffic will be busy. Please drive safe!

Two million. That’s how many Minnesotans travel to the Minnesota State Fair each year. That’s a lot of corndogs, funnel cakes and hotdish on a stick. It’s also a lot of drivers on the road all at once in one area.

Make the Minnesota State Fair fun and safe for everyone, drive the speed limit, always wear a seat belt, don’t drive distracted and make a plan now for a sober ride.

👋 Meet Officer Dan Swenson, our new School Resource Officer!

We’re excited to welcome Officer Swenson into his new role and can’t wait for students and staff to get to know him.

Officer Swenson has been a police officer for 15 years, including the past three years with the White Bear Lake Police Department. Before becoming a police officer, he spent four years as a Community Service Officer with WBLPD.

When asked what he’s most looking forward to in his new role, he shared that he always had a good relationship with his own school resource officer and is eager to build those same positive relationships with students and faculty.

One thing he wants students to know? He’s approachable and easy to talk to. So, if you see Officer Swenson in the halls, don’t be afraid to say hi—or stop by his office!

A couple of fun things you might not know about Officer Swenson? He speaks French, and his advice to students is simple: “High school is a big part of your life, so really embrace it!”

Welcome to the SRO role, Officer Swenson! We’re looking forward to seeing the positive relationships you’ll build throughout our schools!

☀️ Summer isn't quite over, but the new school year is right around the corner!

Soon, school buses will be back on the roads throughout White Bear Lake, helping get our students to and from school safely.

As we get ready for the school year, here’s a reminder for drivers:

➡️ When a school bus is displaying flashing red lights, drivers must stop at least 20 feet away from the bus.

➡️ The stop arm does not need to be extended for drivers to be required to stop.

➡️ On an undivided roadway, drivers traveling in both directions must stop when the bus's red lights are flashing.

➡️ Drivers must remain stopped until the bus's red lights are no longer flashing.

As we head into a new school year, we ask that you slow down, pay attention and watch for students and school buses throughout our community.

We're looking forward to a great — and SAFE — school year for everyone!
