White Deer EMS We are an Emergency Medical Service dedicated to providing the best possible emergency medical care

01/21/2025

After many years of dedicated service, the city council of White Deer made the decision to end the service of White Deer EMS. Effective immediately, EMS services will be taken over by Hemphill County Hospital District.

We are thankful to have been able to provide the best care possible to the citizens of White Deer, and we are thankful to all the citizens that have supported us & trusted us to provide that care.

From Director Heagen:
First, it has been an honor and privilege to come back to my home town, and accomplish what we have as a service. I never thought this was the path that God would put me on, but when the situation arose, I am glad that I ended up here. I am so proud and amazed at the group of people that have been by my side as we took this challenge on. I want to thank my mom the most because without her, I would not have come back here, and we also wouldn't have had a service the first bit without her driving for me. I believe that the people who have worked so hard to help us build back this service deserve an unbelievable amount of credit. The hours they have put in were never taken for granted by me. I am honored to say these people are family, and always will be. I want nothing but the best for those that are making the decision for everyone, and for those that will now be serving our citizens. Lastly, to all my EMS family, I just want you to know that we created something great here together, and that will live on in everyone of us that was part of it.

White Deer EMS is writing this post to explain to our citizens what is happening.

Our service is in jeopardy, and the city council will be deciding next Monday, January 20th at 6pm whether they will be keeping our staff or outsourcing to another agency.

Since February of 2023, we have had a new director and have added additional members to our family. We have basically started from scratch and have been working endlessly to build our service back up and to provide care for our citizens. For the first year and a half our director, one of our uncertified members (who just finished EMT school again), and another uncertified member (who also just finished EMT school) gave up most of their time in order for us to have the ability to have an ambulance available. Other members have given up their time not only to provide coverage for our town but one also went back through paramedic school (giving up weeks of his time doing clinicals and testing).

In May of this year, our director had some health issues causing us to have to start paying certified personnel in order to keep our coverage maintained. It was suggested, voted on, and approved by the city council that the city would continue to pay additional personnel (for those that are out of town as well as the few in town that did not want to volunteer their time) in order to keep our town covered and give our director time off.

In the past several months, this has become a budget concern, and the council has reached out to a few organizations to get quotes on what it would cost the city for one of them to take over our service. This has been debated for several council meetings, and they will officially make their verdict next Monday.

White Deer EMS is not trying to spread information that is false or offensive so we are making this post to clarify our position at this time. If you have any questions for us please reach out to one of our members. Thank you all for reading and for our supporters!

Please keep the T&H Towing family in your thoughts & prayers as they lost a member of their crew last night, and please keep the family of the lost member in your prayers as they navigate their loss.

We are incredibly proud of our diligent crew. Approaching 24 hours and over 30 wrecks, we remain committed to our mission. Today we humbly request prayers for one of our own. We lost a huge part of our team this morning. Please prioritize your safety and refrain from traveling, our team is eager to reunite with their loved ones during this challenging time.

The snowfall is beautiful, but it has created some serious hazards! First responders all over the area have been busy working accidents & helping stranded motorists. TxDOT has also been busy trying to keep roads cleared & assisting first responders.

We are expected to receive more snowfall through the night, and road conditions will be worse in the morning. Black ice will be a major concern tomorrow. If you do not need to get out, please stay home! In the event you do have to travel, be extremely cautious & take your time so you arrive safely to your destination, and carry proper supplies.

Everyone stay warm, and please stay safe!

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Do not drink & drive, and stay safe tonight! Cheers to 2025!

We aren’t a fire department, but we still care about everyone’s safety so sharing some nifty tips for Christmas tree safety!

Whether your Christmas tree is real or artificial, make sure you are taking precautions to prevent a fire and protect you and your family.
🎄 Keep all trees at least three feet away from fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents, and lights.
🎄 If your tree is real, ensure it has adequate water supply to keep the branches and needles moist.
🎄 Inspect your lights for any exposed wires and turn them off over night and when you are away.
🎄 Ensure smoke detectors work and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
