Westchester Black Political Conference

Westchester Black Political Conference The goal of Westchester Black Political Conference is to create a more equitable and secure future for Black communities through public policy.

If Black Communities want to prosper just like all other communities, there must be total participation in the political process. Personal responsibility is not enough. There must be Responsible Public Policy to go hand in hand in uplifting our communities. It is one thing to complain about the outcome of an election and the subsequent policies that are developed as a result of the voting process

but it is another to stand up and take action. We all have lost trust in the reckless decisions that are made at the local, state, and national levels. However, changing the political process in our local, state, and national political arenas will make a difference in our communities and for ALL communities. The Westchester County Black Political Caucus recognizes and accepts our mission from Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s Poor Peoples Campaign. Dr. King was unwavering in his belief that the “triple threats to humanity” of poverty, racism, and militarism needed to be challenged at all cost. We are also born out of the historical first National Black Political Assembly (NBPA), formerly known as the Gary Convention, was held on March 10, 1972 in Gary Indiana. The NBPA gathered around ten thousand African-Americans to discuss and advocate for black communities that undergo significant economic and social crisis.[3] Part of their goal was to raise the number of black politicians elected to office, increase representation, and create an agenda for fundamental change.
