Upcoming virtual professional development (PD) opportunity for teachers of students with Autism.

The PD is offered as part of a grant-funded research project through Sam Houston State University. Please direct any questions or interest you have to Dr. Kristina Vargo at [email protected] or 936-294-4099.

Below is a brief overview of the project. Teachers can choose to participate in a virtual real-time PD or self-paced PD. We appreciate you sharing this opportunity with teachers!

• The Sam Houston Autism Research and Education (SHARE) Workshop Series is now recruiting teachers to participate in professional development over Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis.

• If you choose to participate, you will be asked to do the following:

o Attend an informational session over Zoom on September 11 or 13 from 4:30-5:30 pm: The one-hour virtual session will review the consent form and discuss expectations and questions.

To register for a virtual information session, contact Dr. Vargo at [email protected]

o Participate in 6 workshop sessions (choose real-time or self-paced format):

Real-Time: A 90-minute session will be held live every other week for 12 weeks. During the sessions, participants will attend a lecture-based presentation over the topic that includes discussions. Sessions will be video-recorded to allow for data collection.

• Real-time workshop sessions for Fall 2023 with Region 11 will be held on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm (Session dates: Oct 3, Oct 17, Oct 31, Nov 14, Nov 28, Dec 12)

Self-Paced: Modules are available in a flexible, self-paced format. Participants will view a pre-recorded video and engage in individual reflection exercises.

• Self-paced workshop sessions will be available from October 2-December 23.

o Complete a variety of assessments in a timely manner: Prior to and following the workshop sessions, participants will complete a series of written and video assessments to evaluate the efficacy of the SHARE Workshop Series.

• Participants who complete the SHARE Workshop Series may be eligible for a monetary stipend and continuing professional education credits following participation.

Hello!
We are starting two new exciting research projects at the TCU Families, Autism, and Child Emotion Studies (FACES) Lab at Texas Christian University!
Employment Decisions: We are recruiting mothers of children with autism who have either decided to leave or remain in the workforce after their child’s diagnosis. In order to participate, participants must be married mothers of a child diagnosed with autism. Their child must be between the ages of 10-17 years old.

Personality and Parenting: We are recruiting mothers of children with autism to answer some questionnaires about personality and parenting. In order to participate, participants must be mothers of a child diagnosed with autism. Their child must be between the ages of 4-17 years old.
As I’m sure you understand, the success of our research depends, in part, on our ability to recruit a large number of families who are willing to share their time with us. We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word about this study to families who may be interested!
Attached is the electronic copy of the informational flyer for you to review and distribute to families. As a matter of procedure, the flyer has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Texas Christian University.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have!
Thank you so much for your time and help!
