Weathervane Theatre is offering 20 complimentary tickets to the second performance of G***k 17 on Wednesday 9.2 at 7pm. This is a world premiere that has been workshopped at Weathervane over the last few summers!

Second, they are going to do a day of general rush for this show. $10, cash only, at the Box Office day of performance. Limit 4 per person.

G***k 17 Synopsis

Set in El Paso, Texas, Loui grapples with the harsh reality of what it is to be Mexican in 2019 America. On a road to self-discovery through understanding her religious, immigrant dad, she turns to a podcast to anonymously share her thoughts, where she comes face to face with the question “What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in the moments that you know you shouldn’t be?”

Are you the caregiver of a child between the ages of 1-4? Join us at Whitefield Public Library, A Family Place Library, for Parent-Child Workshop. Parent Child Workshop is a free five-week program for toddlers and their parents/caregivers. This fun, informal, play-based program provides a rich environment of toys, books and art activities. Families have the opportunity to spend time together, make new friends, and talk one-on-one with a different community resource professional each week. Each weekly session transforms the library space into an informal early childhood center filled with developmental toys, books, and art activities, and each week will have a guest community resource professional. Local experts in the fields of child development, speech and hearing, nutrition, and music and movement attend the sessions to chat informally and answer questions.

We are heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

From the ALA's statement...

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

Whitefield Public Library will work diligently to continue her legacy through keeping the Dolly Parton Imagination Library alive for North Country children.

Sadly, the grant that has funded the local share of this wonderful project - through which children ages 0-5 years of age receive a free, age appropriate book each month courtesy of the Dollywood Foundation - is expiring 12/31/2025 and my not be renewed. I am currently writing a history of the French-Canadian presence in Whitefield and neighboring communities. Thus far, I have obtained valuable information from the Catholic Diocese of Manchester and the University of New Hampshire. I am also finding enlightening pieces in contemporary newspapers and in the History of Coos County (1888). I am complementing these finds with information from decennial censuses.

This e-mail is a bit of a shot in the dark. Do you know of local histories, perhaps in your collections, that discuss the French-Canadian presence? I am finding that it is much better documented (predictably, perhaps) in Berlin.

UPDATE:

What a beautiful community we have! If you have frozen or fresh meals that you would like to drop at the library, we can take them until 6pm today or 9am-1pm Friday and Saturday.

Our friend has no dietary restrictions and "likes anything."

Friends, we have an elderly lady in town who has just had surgery, lives alone, and is in need of some food to help get her on the road to healing. Do we have anyone able to do a meal? We (at the library) can help coordinate.
