Weekly update 5/4-5/11: On 5/8 at 4:02pm, we received a call from a CVS employee that stated a customer asked her to call police. The investigation determined that an unknown scammer was attempting to scam the customer out of $14K by pretending to be a MKE Sheriff's Deputy. The scammer told the woman she needed to pay the money because she missed jury duty. The scammer kept the woman on the phone as she went to the store. This is 1000000% a scam. No law enforcement agency will meet you at a business and collect $14k for missing jury duty. Scams like these having been popping up again lately. If it seems suspicious, it probably is! Hang up the phone!

On 5/9 at 00:08, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was not displaying any plates. The car pulled into an apartment parking lot in the 4800blk N Lydell. The driver stated she did not have any ID with her and verbally identified herself to the officer. The officer believed she gave him fake info and had her exit the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, the driver ran back to the vehicle, threw into drive and attempted to drive away. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จTwo officers were able to pull her from the car as it rolled away. Another officer was able to put the car into park before it hit anything. The woman resisted arrest, but ultimately was arrested for 2 counts of resist/obstruct an officer. She did not have a license, and that appears to be why she attempted to flee.

On 5/10 at 4:20pm, a subject was va**ng in the CVS bathroom and set off the fire alarm for the business. He was cited for prohibited smoking indoors. ๐Ÿšญ

Today marks the first day of National Police Week (May 10th-May 16th)! National Police week is both a week of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice, family and co-workers. We honor, remember and celebrate the officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ’™

What a day! We were joined by many past and present members of our department to celebrate Detective Joseph McLeod and Sergeant Daniel Courtier, who both retired this week after 30 years of service to the WFB community. Both of these men were valuable members and strong leaders in our department.

Joe was promoted to the rank of detective in 1998. As a detective, he brought calmness, reassurance and comfort to many victims. He also was a driving force in solving many crimes, including a homicide in 2022, robberies and burglaries. Joe was someone that acted as a mentor to many on the department, and was someone that was always there to listen.

Dan was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2007. As a sergeant, he ensured that officers were doing their jobs and it was being done at a high standard. He was very active with traffic enforcement throughout his career, and became a resource to many officers on traffic laws. Dan was tasked with managing many things including accident reports, the TIME system and our fleet.

We wish both of them a long and happy retirement filled with grilling, road trips and softball games. Thank you for your service! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’™
