Troop 398 scout Jack Gordon has started his Eagle Scout project to organize the creation of homemade face masks. Please see below if you are interested in helping.

My name is Jack Gordon and I am currently a Life Scout in BSA Troop 398 in Whitefish Bay, WI. As part of my journey towards becoming an Eagle Scout, I’ve chosen to focus my Eagle Project on the current coronavirus pandemic. We held our annual Pinewood Derby this Saturday where we saw 36 scouts and their parents’ fine craftsmanship put on display. We kicked off the event with a stunning rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and followed it with a car dedicated to our District Executive (Owen L. Our cub scouts had a great time at Riveredge Nature Center. They spent the day exploring and finding various animals in the pond. After a pizza dinner, they went on a night hike, listening for animals and stargazing. After a campfire and s’mores, some scouts spent the overnight in a barn while others tented outside. It was a beautiful day to spend outside, get a bit dirty and explore! Thanks to Susan for setting up the event and Jordan for bringing snacks.

We had another great weekend at Indian Mounds Reservation with fun at the castle, mine and exploring the area. The scouts played capture the flag, blob tag, infection and many other games. As the AOL scouts worked with Troop 398 building a cross over bridge the remaining scouts went on hikes, fished and even waded into the lake. Our evening concluded with a dinner, camp fire, great skit performances, a unique rendition of baby shark and our AOL scouts crossing over to Troop 398.

Thanks to Brian Maillet our Cub Master, Nathan Christenson our treasurer, Joe Pajot and Tom Sullivan our 5th grade Webelos den leaders. We are grateful they volunteered and their leadership was extremely helpful in running our pack. We wish them the best of luck in the future!

Thanks to Brian for serving as our MC during our 2019 Blue and Gold! The dad jokes and scout skits were great. My ears are still ringing from the songs... we probably won’t give our scouts access to the mike in the future.😀 The pool party was fun as always. Time for a nap, but thought I would post a few pictures!

A few weeks have past but we wanted to post the results of our Pinewood Derby. 55 awesome cars were entered this year and the scouts/parents were as creative as ever! Congratulations to all scouts who participated! You showed great sportsmanship during the race and the race results were very close. Special thanks to Pack 535 for running the race!

Our fastest 10 cars (in order) were Henry R., Kian L., Robert N., Calvin S., Miles R., Henry J., Louis M., Luci R., Henry V. and Kirah D. The fastest 5 cars received trophies.

Our slowest 5 cars (in order of most slowest) were Linus P., Vera B., Bella C., Noah P., Gus C. The slowest 3 also received trophies.

Our top voted cars (in order) Colin S., Cole C., Asa C., William S. and Aiden G. All received trophies.

Finally, Owen C. won our Sportsmanship award.

Once again, congratulations to all. We hope building the cars was as much fun as the event itself and we can’t wait to see your creations next year!

We had 38 scouts and parents attend our Eagle Cave overnight this year. The scouts (and several parents) spent all day Saturday climbing, crawling and sliding their way through various passages in the cave. As always, Eagle Cave provided a sloppy joe lunch and fried chicken for dinner. During the afternoon and evening the scouts played in the arcade and kept warm by the campfire. I think most ended the evening well before official lights out at 11. Thanks to everyone who attended, I think they kids made memories that will last a lifetime!

For 84 years, Whitefish Bay Cub Scout Pack 398 has been providing children and their families the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun activities while building character and values that will last a lifetime. Our pack is chartered by the North Shore Kiwanis Club and we meet at Richards Elementary School. We have a lot of fun, sing some silly songs, eat tons of s'mores, race Pinewood Derby cars, hike, camp, cook, etc. We also teach the kids about responsibility and citizenship, among other things. While traditionally Cub Scouts was only available for only boys, starting this past spring, we had the honor of welcoming girls to officially join our Pack.
If your son or daughter is in K5 through fifth grade, or 6 to 10 years of age, we would like to invite you and your child to our Join Scouts Night meeting. We will provide information regarding scouting and our pack and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to bring your children as we plan to launch water rockets with them (weather permitting).
Our pack and each den have monthly meetings and we have several other opportunities for adventure throughout the year, so you can participate as much or as little as you would like. Some highlights for this coming year include:
Sleepover at Lambeau Field October 6
Cake Bake Off November 19
Overnight in Eagle Cave December 8
Pinewood Derby January 26
Pizza & Pool Party February 23
Overnight camp April 13
Cubmobile Race May 11
Overnight at Scouting the Zoo June 1

Our scouts had a great day at the zoo! By now everyone should have dried out, warmed up and at least one scout have had a tooth fairy visit.

The day started early with pancakes and tent setup. The scouts the practiced a few times with the cubmobile sand registered for the race. After a quick accessory was added to our cars, they were deemed legal and the event kicked off. There were two events held. One was a oval race that included six pit stops where drivers/pushers had to switch out and a cup of water drank. The other event was down a ramp, which was called “Cool Cruise”. Both our Wolf/Bear and Webelos/Arrow of Light Dens performed wonderfully. All of the packs held to the scout law and the scouts had a blast.

Our scouts then completed the tent setup with parents, checked in Pinewood derby cars and headed off for the parade. After the parade the organizers kicked off the day and we found out both of our dens took second place in the Cubmobile cool cruise event!

During the day our Tiger/Wolf Scouts put on cardboard boxes and competed in the Cub-Annapolis. During this event they ran around a course and had their adult partner perform various tasks in a pit stop.

Many of our scouts participated in a service project where we weeded and planted an exhibit. Others participated in the scavenger hunt with another pack. During the afternoon, several of our scouts had cars in the Pinewood derby.

The scouts also had a chance to view and interact with the Boy Scout and Venturing exhibits. The Troops and Crews did a great job and were kind and helpful with our Cub Scouts. Our scouts made rope, smashed pennies, worked leather, branded, had several donuts and cookies among other activities.

The evening concluded with the trips on the train, zoo mobile and carousel. At the closing ceremony we learned our pack earned the Zero’s Hero’s award. This annual award is presented to a Cub Scout pack who truly gets involved in the event. Consideration for this award is given for Scout behavior, activity participation and overall unit conduct. The winning unit will receive a commemorative plaque and the trophy will be displayed, with the current unit number, in one of our council offices. The winning unit will be invited to join the Zoo Cup winners in leading next year’s parade. While none of our scouts won any event as a Pack they did a great job behaving and fully participating!

We had a campfire and s’mores as the night ended. Though there was a bit of rain, parents and scouts had a great time and I think we found a new annual event for our Pack!

Waiting was definitely worth it! The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for our annual spring outing to Indian Mounds Reservation (IMR). Our day started with a flag ceremony and then headed over for a game of capture the flag. Have a couple of thorn injuries, the scouts had a quick snack and we took over the castle. They had a great time with various forms of tag (infection, ghost in the grave yard and a third game the adults are still attempting to figure out). The scouts then headed to their cabins for lunch break before sailing the high seas on the Pirate Ship. While the adults dreamed of rocking on the porch the rest of the day the kids shot off cannons and had a great time. After the ship the dens broke up a bit, taking hikes, setting up tents, etc. The afternoon was spent having fun on slack lines, rain gutter regatta, and playing games. The day went by quickly and the scouts changed into their uniforms and had a dinner of hot dogs and chips. As the sun was headed down we had a flag ceremony and torch bearers led us to the camp fire ceremony. Songs were sung, skits were performed and a great time was had by all. Finally, our fifth grade Webelos crossed over to Troop 398. Congratulations and you will be missed. What a great day, we are already looking forward to next year!
