On the morning of Wednesday November 9, 2022 starting at 6:00 am CST, the Milwaukee County Federated Library System will be migrating its library network.

The scheduled maintenance impacts all public libraries in Milwaukee County. Whitefish Bay Public Library will be open and you will be able to checkout materials, but you'll need to have your library card or a picture of your library barcode.

While our libraries will be open this day, CountyCat, CountyCat Mobile and all resources or services with a connection to our library system (such as Hoopla, OverDrive/Libby, Creativebug, Kanopy, etc.) will be unavailable for the duration of the scheduled maintenance. If you have downloaded titles from any online service in advance, then you will be able to use them that day. Patrons just won’t be able to checkout, stream or download NEW items during the outage.

We'll let you know once things are back up!

2022 marked a significant ramp-up in activity from the past 2 years for Yid Vicious thanks to widespread COVID-19 bivalent vaccine availability and significant cultural precautions to preserve public safety. (Please keep current with your vaccines and practice good hygienic practices to maintain live performances for the future.)

Here's what brewed for Yid Vicious in 2022:
-Overture's Kids in the Rotunda bookended the year for Yid Vicious Klezmer Ensemble: a virtual edition in January 2022; a live but mitigated Kids in the Rotunda series in November 2022.
-Yid Vicious bade farewell to the 809 E. Washington Avenue residence of Bos Mead Hall, and hopes for a metamorphosis for this wonderful venue in a new Madison location.
-Performed Brass for Books: A Benefit for Literacy Network.
-Performed a Purim Party for Ukraine alongside Elm Duo at North Street Cabaret, raising much needed humanitarian aid for organizations helping civilians in Ukraine.
-Resumed City-wide inter-cultural celebration at Overture Center's International Festival.
-Collaborated with Michael Kuharski for a combined concert with students and dance instruction for Madison Country Day School's Inaugural Spring String Thing.
-Accepted our 2021 Madison Area Music Association Award (MAMA) for World Performer of the Year at the Bur Oak.
-Attempted a 2nd Annual Yid Vicious Paddle Party, but was thwarted by weather; Stay Tuned for next year!!!
-Brought music to Pinney Library, Madison Public Library for Music Maker Monday.
-BandGlamped in Michigan Cherry Country courtesy the Wolfe family, presenting a benefit concert for Mills Community House in Benzonia, an outdoor concert at Michigan Legacy Art Park at Crystal Mountain, and a livestreamed concert hosted by Congregation Beth Shalom at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse. Transportation courtesy the S.S. Badger.
-Brought Klezmer Goodness to the Wisconsin Capitol Square for Lunch Time Live! concert series.
-Celebrated Ukraine's Independence Day along with Forward! Marching Band at Garner Park.
-Celebrated being selected a Finalist for World Performer of the Year for the 2022 MAMA Awards. Kia Karlen and Geoff Brady also found themselves as Finalists for French Horn Player of the Year and Specialty Percussion Player of the Year, respectively.
-Collaborated with Intemperance Collective for a benefit concert for Ukraine in at North Street Cabaret in October 2022.
-Supported our local Craft Brewery partner Parched Eagle Brewery with several acoustic Happy Hour concerts.
-Rioted at the 2022 Milwaukee Polka Riot.
-Collaborated with Brian Grimm to create a score for the Forward Theater Company production of "The Wanderers" by Anna Ziegler.
-Commemorated Whitefish Bay Public Library's 85th Anniversary Celebration alongside the singular Truly Remarkable Loon in one of the final performances in his career.
-Celebrated Hanukkah with JSS Lechayim in Madison.

We hope all is well with you and yours in 2023, and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming performances. Stay well, and keep rocking on, Madison! We've shared 26+ glorious years with you, and look forward to many more!

Tomorrow evening at 6:30pm, the Whitefish Bay Public Library is hosting a free event (open to all) called "How Racism Distorts the Human Spirit" with Sue Ballew St. Clair.

The event will begin with a musical performance by CAPITA (City at Peace in the Arts) Productions, and then the focus of the presentation will be on racism and how it affects and harms the spirit of man - both Black and White - in America.

St. Clair is focused on addressing the most vital and challenging issue (racism) in this country and the importance of centering the roles of people of African descent, the Pupil of the Eye, in the work of the Faith.

If interested, register for the event here: https://baybridgewisconsin.org/event/how-racism-distorts-the-human-spirit/

Excite your mind, come to your senses. How’s this for a perfect pairing? Public libraries foster literacy, culture, health, creativity, community—they are indispensable for an educated society. Given this, it’s only natural that every librarian I visited was excited to promote Wormfarm Institute's upcoming Farm/Art DTour.

Come to any of these libraries and pick up a DTour guide. You’ll find interesting reading, beautiful art, meaningful poetry, and tasty recipes in both the guide and the libraries.
