Have you ever wondered about the cemetery located immediately west of Whitefish Bay on Lydell Ave, in-between Belle Ave and Montclaire Ave? WUWM's Bubbler Talk series recently shed light on the history behind some of Milwaukee-area's lesser-known cemeteries, Union Cemetery (located in the City of Glendale) being one. The storm is over and the roads are cleared! Here is a breakdown of the DPW's snow operations for yesterday's event: โ„โ„โ„

Wednesday: Brine applied to all Village Roads, alleys and parking lots. This requires one worker to apply 5,000 gallons of salt brine over 8 hours and helps mitigate the first inch of snow fall.

Thursday (Storm Hits): Three employees operating three salt/plow trucks begin routes at 10:00 a.m. mainly salting roadways. At 1:00 p.m. six employees operating six trucks begin full snow removal operations until 3:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Village streets were completely plowed two times over the course of the storm. Duration and snow totals dictate total salt usage. On average, it requires approximately 25 tons to salt all roads within the Village. Yesterday, the DPW completed three rounds of salting equating to approximately 100 tons.

Today, three employees are driving the streets cleaning up locations where parked cars prohibited plows from clearing snow. This summary does not even include the labor and hours required to clear certain Village sidewalks, and the Village Hall / Library!

Many thanks to the DPW staff and crew for a job well done!

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Please review the Draft Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) and provide your comments by linking to the CORP Comment Form. The Public Comment Form will be open through March 8, 2023.

https://www.wfbvillage.gov/FormCenter/Contact-Us-4/Comprehensive-Outdoor-Recreation-Plan-CO-75

This CORP was developed by the Village of Whitefish Bay Staff, along with a team of consultants from GRAEF, to guide recreation management and park development for the next five years and enable the Village to apply for grant funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) and other funding sources.

This plan creates an up-to-date inventory and evaluation of Whitefish Bayโ€™s existing parks, identifies the needs of community members related to outdoor recreational opportunities and provides a list of recommendations to the Village to assist with its Capital Improvement Planning (CIP) efforts related to parks and open space.
