Two incredible days on the river with Montana Kayak Academy (MKA) | Whitewater Lessons

The kids learned how to properly outfit their kayaks, read the river, practice eddy turns and ferries, and confidently navigate Class II whitewater.

One of the most important skills they learned was the wet exit—how to safely exit a kayak if it flips over. It can be intimidating the first time, but it is a lifesaving skill that helps prevent a paddler from becoming trapped underwater. Confidence comes from knowing exactly what to do. This saves lives.

Watching these kids go from nervous beginners to confidently paddling whitewater in just two days was incredible. They challenged themselves, trusted the process, and absolutely crushed it. We couldn’t be prouder and so incredibly grateful for Dave, and the entire team am Montana kayak Academy for this incredible experience.

Our very first off-site adventure with Montana Kayak Academy (MKA) | Whitewater Lessons was an incredible success. The kids spent the day rafting the Flathead River, but they weren’t just along for the ride. They became part of the adventure.

They learned how a river works, explored river hydrology, talked through river logistics and safety, and discovered how to read the current and work together to maneuver a raft downstream. Watching their confidence grow with every bend in the river was such a rewarding experience.

There is something powerful about learning in the real world. When kids are challenged, trusted, and immersed in nature, something shifts. They become more present, more curious, and more confident.

Today wasn’t just a rafting trip.

It was a day of teamwork, courage, new skills, and memories they’ll carry long after they left the river.

We’re so grateful to Montana Kayak Academy for sharing their knowledge and passion with our campers. We can’t wait for the next adventure. 🌊🛶💙

Every great adventure starts with a story… ours just happens to begin beneath the trees. 🌲✨

There’s something truly magical about story time in nature. With birds singing overhead, leaves dancing in the breeze, and the mountains all around us, children don’t just hear the story—they become part of it. The outdoors sparks their imagination in a way four walls never could, turning every page into a real-life adventure.

At the ranch, we believe some of the best classrooms have no ceilings. Reading amongst the trees encourages children to slow down, listen, wonder, and dream. It’s a chance to unplug from screens, connect with nature, and let their imaginations run as wild as the landscape around them. These are the moments that inspire a lifelong love of books, curiosity, and the great outdoors—and they’re memories that stay with children long after the final page is turned. 🤎📚🌿

Why do we keep our counselor-to-camper ratio low? ❤️

It’s about so much more than safety.

It’s about moments like this.

This little guy was completely worn out after a morning of adventure, crawled into a counselor’s lap, and slept peacefully for over an hour.

Because we keep our ratios low, we have the time, presence, and capacity to truly know, support, and care for every child.

Some days they’re running through the forest like little wild adventurers. Other days they’re curled up in the tipi reading books or taking a much-needed nap. Every day is different, and we let the needs of the children guide the rhythm.

We always have a plan. We always have a purpose. But nothing is rigid.

We adapt. We pivot. We meet kids where they are.

Today the rain poured, so we shifted gears, gathered in the big tent, and spent the afternoon creating art, making crafts, laughing, and enjoying every minute together.

Because camp isn’t about sticking to a schedule.

It’s about creating the best possible experience for the children in front of us. ❤️

Today was all about adventure. 🌲

We started the morning gathered around the fire for our gratitude circle before jumping into an epic game of Capture the Flag. Then campers split into age groups and explored the property to create brand-new trails. One group even discovered a whitetail deer path and proudly named it Whitetail Trail. 🦌

In the afternoon, each group worked together to design their own camp flag, choosing a team name, mascot, symbols, and values that represented who they are. It was incredible watching every child contribute ideas and create something together.

Of course, there was plenty of time for forts, slacklining, coloring, hammocks, the bounce house, and all the imaginative free play that makes camp so special.

Another day filled with curiosity, teamwork, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. ❤️🏕️
