On behalf of Smith County Firefighters’ Association Local 5300, we want to publicly recognize the incredible bravery shown on February 2nd.

In a moment that could have gone another way, these individuals ran toward danger — not away from it. Approaching a burning vehicle and putting themselves at risk to save someone else takes real courage.

This is what unity in public safety looks like. Fire, law enforcement, and community members working together with one mission — protecting life.

Please join us in thanking them for their selflessness and courage

The numbers are here: More than 10,000 9-1-1 calls were dispatched to our Smith County Emergency Services District 2 firefighters in 2025.

Can you believe it? Medical calls, vehicle accidents, bomb explosions, rescues, severe weather, fires, and much more. All right here in Smith County. Crazy. They responded professionally, efficiently, and successfully to each of those calls - in between trainings, PR events, TIFMAS requests, and station drop-ins.

Now you're probably wondering, who has the hottest house? Station 32 in Jackson? What about Station 72 in Dixie? Go view our Stories and cast your vote. We're sharing those numbers later.

Smith County: We are NOT under a burn ban. However, with high winds and heavy, dry growth on the ground, we are seeing an abundance of Wildland/grass fires. Firefighters are responding to multiple fires across the county.

We are asking you to please refrain from burning brush piles and be cautious grilling. Do not discard of ci**rs or like products in the grass. No miscellaneous burning. An ember can quickly turn into a fire taking over acres or structures with a change in the wind.

Thank you for your cooperation!
