Dangerous heat returns this week! Heat index values will soar to the mid and upper 100s towards the middle/end of the week. This will increase flash drought risks across the area. Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, check on neighbors and always look before you lock!

Smith County Emergency Services District 2 has received an additional TIFMAS request (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) from the State of Texas. TIFMAS is maintained by Texas A&M Forest Service.

Smith Co. ESD 2 is sending two more individuals to assist across the state - one (1) Heavy Equipment Operator and one (1) Task Force Leader.

As of 08/11/2026, SCESD 2 has provided six (6) individuals to help in different regions across the state of Texas.

More than 1000 calls during the month of July!

Our firefighters responded to more than 400 medical emergencies, more than 150 vehicle accidents with at least four (4) victim extrications, more than 140 fire-related incidents, plus a childbirth related call, three (3) gunshot wounds, and multiple water-related calls.

This was in addition to attending several community events, filming with Motorola, and speaking with paramedic students at Tyler Junior College.

Smith County Emergency Services District 2 has received a TIFMAS request (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) from the State of Texas to stage in Jack County, Texas, at the Bear Hollow Fire. TIFMAS is maintained by Texas A&M Forest Service.

Smith Co. ESD 2 is sending three individuals as a part of Strike Team 184, which also includes firefighters from Longview Fire Department, Lufkin Firefighters, Texarkana Fire, and Nacogdoches Fire Department.

In between all of our calls, we were able to participate in an active shooter drill that was captured by Motorola Solutions.

We are beyond thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this project and work with such a fantastic team!
